The Blessing Of Easter

March 21, 2023~ Blog hop, Easter, Tablescapes

Happy Spring dear friends! We had a tease of spring earlier in the month, but the past few days have been cold in the South.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” ‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬

I am joining twenty talented table stylists to bring you a Spring Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by my friend, Rita at Panoply. You will find links for beautiful tabletops at the bottom of this post.

The season of spring has many reasons for celebration in our family. All three of our grandchildren have spring birthdays, March, April, and May. My wonderful Renaissance Man turns a year older in April. With all of these sweet blessings, our greatest blessing is Easter!

Easter, like other holidays, encompasses a wide variety of things we would consider “blessings”. Bunnies, baskets, and brightly colored eggs bring excitement to children, and it’s a blessing to observe them laughing and running as they search for that prize egg. What about time with family and friends…have I mentioned good food? A truly great blessing at Easter is the springing forth of new life all around us as winter retreats and warmer, longer days arrive. We are most blessed by being able to celebrate the resurrection of Christ, being also the source of new life, yet new life that is eternal. The beauty of this spring will again give way to another autumn in a few months, but the significance of His empty tomb will never change!

We had some beautiful sunny days last week, but the temps were rather cool. I bundled up so I could set a table next to our woodlands!

Bunnies are very active around our home in the springtime. A couple of moss ones hopped onto the table. At least I don’t have to worry about them munching on the flowers!

A pastel yellow Prairie tablecloth by Rachel Ashwell is an ideal foundation for an Easter/Spring table. Whimsical bunny ears hold pink fringed napkins and woven placemats add a bit of texture. The Godinger iced tea glasses are from Horchow many years ago. The Rogers silver-plated flatware was a wedding gift.

The bright green grass is planted each autumn by RM. It stays green all winter and provides a beautiful carpet in early spring, a most lovely backdrop for a tablescape.

“Our Lord has written the promise of resurrection, not in the books alone, but in every leaf in springtime.”
~Martin Luther

With frost predicted, I cut snowball viburnums, Bridal Wreath spirea, Pride of Mobile azaleas from our garden, and redbud branches from the woodlands. I stored them in RM’s workshop for a couple of nights and the blooms stayed fresh. They were arranged in a MacKenzie-Childs Flower Market canister for a sweet spring bouquet.

Each year at Christmas, my precious Daddy gives me money to buy whatever I might want. This year I bought two different sets of salad plates, sharing one set last week for Tea On Tuesdays. A set of cute bunny plates is part of the Rose Famille collection from Williams Sonoma. The set contains four salad plates of two designs, and I could not resist them!

The pair of mischievous bunnies are too cute!

The Rose Famille dinner plates were purchased last year with money gifted me by my Dad for Christmas. My 92 year old Daddy derives great pleasure when I show him what was purchased!

My adult play house, the Sunshine Cottage, is shown in the background. The granddaughters and I have spent countless hours reading, playing dolls, having tea parties, and even a few nights of sleep-overs on a blow up mattress (oh, my aching back)!

Late afternoon offers a scene of light and shadows dancing across the green carpet.

You can catch a glimpse of everyday living in the background of this photo! RM and our son were cleaning up after a dead tree removal. Of course, they needed to do it during my window of opportunity to photograph.

“There is an unexplainable stirring that occurs when winter finally exhibits the humility to completely bow out and relinquish all rights to spring!”
~ Butch Richardson

Pam, your garden is already lush and full of springtime pleasures. Dining alfresco in your garden is always a highlight for me. I’m in awe of the beauty of your property. I have some pieces of the Williams Sonoma Famille Rose series. Such exquisite designs. Your plates with the bunnies are adorable. Wishing you and your family a beautiful spring and Happy Easter.

Good Morning Pam! What a beautiful alfresco table set with your Famille Rose bunnie plates! I was just admiring them on WS’s site yesterday, telling myself I didn’t need any more bunny plates, but they are so tempting. Such sweet moss bunnies blending with RM’s beautiful winter rye grass. I love the shot of the tractor in the background!! 😊 Your spring bouquet of viburnum, redbud, azalea and spirea is beautiful. We had several hard freezes in the last two weeks, which nipped our spirea buds and burned our Endless Summer Hydrangeas. I’m hoping it was just the new leaves and not the buds on the hydrangeas or there won’t be any blooms until late summer instead of spring…sniff. Our viburnums weren’t as far as long as yours fortunately, so we should still see blooms. As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table. Happy Spring. ♥

All the spring flowers are perfect with your Famille Rose bunny plates which are stunningly beautiful….and to know they are essentially a gift from your Dad makes them more special. And I especially love the Butch quote! Way to go RM. Happy Easter dear friend. He is Risen!!!!!!

Color my world with spring, Pam! Oh, how I love all the colors you’ve chosen here today. I kept waiting for the salad plate sourcing – another beautiful choice for you! – especially combined with your dinner plates and those flowers straight out of the garden & woods! One never knows what’s lurking in the woods, am I right?😉The Godinger iced tea stems are classic, as is the flatware. I just love that this tablescape is outdoors, even if it was nippy (it’s currently 26° and sunny as I write this comment, but finally warming up today and I declare spring for good!). Your choice of what I call ‘good words’ interspersed with your tablescape capture the essence of Easter so well. Pam, thank you for being part of this hop with me and sharing your beauty – always. Happy Spring!

Indeed we are greatly blessed to receive the blessing of eternal life because of our Saviors sacrifice on the cross. Easter is a blessed reminder for us.
Your table is gorgeous with your beautiful flowers, lovely china, silverware, goblets, napkins and most peaceful setting. The woodland setting with a carpet of green is a beautiful backdrop for your pretty table. The moss bunnies are darling accenting your spring bouquet from your yard. Your arrangement is my favorite kind so natural and fitting.
It was a treat to see your table this morning. You are a great table stylist and writer.

Oh goodness Pam, so many Spring birthdays do make Spring even more special for you! You were brave to set this beautiful table outside during our recent cold snap, and thank you, the woodland setting is so gorgeous! I love the way the sunlight dances over everything, and the moss bunnies are wonderful! Pink and green are so perfect for Spring, and the snowball flower arrangement with sprigs of pink azelea and white is so beautiful. Your special WS bunny plates are adorable and I love the way the crystal glasses sparkle in the light, there is beauty everywhere you look, even with the tractor, I love it all!

Pam, Your al fresco Spring table is gorgeous! Your new salad plates as well as your dinner plates are fabulous! I know your Daddy enjoys seeing how you spent your gift money. It makes him happy to see you happy. The bunnies on the plates are so cute! The floral centerpiece is so fresh and pretty. I always love the moss bunnies. They add a special touch to the table. I’m afraid our spring blooms are over due to the hard freeze. We were enjoying all the pretty colors and hoping they would last through Easter for pictures. I’m so glad you were able to get several pretty bouquets from your plants. They look great in the MC vase. The backdrop rye grass does look like a carpet. Your yellow tablecloth is so pretty and fresh looking. All the different pastel colors make such a beautiful tablescape. Great job! Clara ❤️

Good morning Pam! Your opening thoughts were so well written, I greatly appreciated them. And Butch’s quote about winter relinquishing to spring is also beautiful. That lush rye grass makes an incredible backdrop for your lovely spring table. Isn’t it wonderful to be able to gather flowers from your own yard! All I have been able to do is watch helplessly while we had a hard freeze the last few nights. The new growth on my butterfly bushes and hydrangeas are toast, but the snowball bush, Lenten roses, and Carolina jessamine appear ok. Luckily, the azaleas haven’t bloomed yet. A dear friend gave me a David Austen rose in memory of Rosie, and its new growth still looks good thankfully. This has been a crazy crazy spring for sure!

Happy Birthday to the Spring babies. What a wonderful time to celebrate a birthday. Truly, it is a beautiful outdoor tablescape. I just love the lush green grass with the tranquil spots of sunshine. You are absolutely right, it does make for a stunning backdrop for your charming table. The beautiful plates from William Sonoma as a gift from your dad really pops against the elements of nature. They are elegant and playful at the same time. Certainly it is a treasure to keep for many Easters to come. How fortunate to be able to cut fresh flowers straight from your garden. (Wisconsin has still mounds of snow with more to come this weekend.) Your photos changed my mood entirely and uplifted my spirits for Spring. Have a wonderful blessed Easter with your family and bring on the birthday cakes too.

The fresh seasonal sprigs of color in your centerpiece absolutely make it for me. And your dinnerware is darling. I especially love the green plates.

Happy Wednesday! I set a table next to our woodlan Happy Wednesday! I set a table next to our woodlands in memory of my beautiful Mother who was a lovely example of a Proverbs 31 woman. Mother had the gift of hospitality and shared it with everyone. Karl Rosenfield peonies from my garden fill a treasured keepsake pitcher handed down from my grandmother! A beautiful floral April Cornell ‘Lillianna’ tablecloth and Famille Rose salad plates elevate the status of the old picnic table next to our woodlands. I have collected bejeweled enamel trinket boxes for many years and shared a few on the table for whimsy and fun. For memories of my Mother, click the link in my profile.

With glorious weather, the table next to our woodl With glorious weather, the table next to our woodlands was perfect for teatime! It is Tea on Tuesdays with blogging friends Mary and Kitty. The table is enhanced by views toward the mountain, woodlands, and the large Snowball Viburnum. The verdant rye grass appears as a green carpet that has been spread for Easter! Vintage Fitz and Floyd ‘Herb Garden’ teapots, sugar and creamer, and oval tray are suited for springtime with their embossed bows, vegetables, and words. A bouquet of Kwanzan Cherry blossoms add more spring color to the setting.

I am serving a simple teatime with Earl Grey tea, savory egg salad filled phyllo cups, and sweet vanilla cupcakes with cream cheese icing, and macarons! A favorite cottage rose tablecloth and Essential napkins are by April Cornell.

We are most blessed to celebrate the resurrection of Christ, being the source of new life, yet new life that is eternal. The beauty of this spring will again give way to another autumn in a few months, but the significance of His empty tomb will never change! Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our woodlands and this is the first one of the season, an Easter/Spring table! I love all the sweet bunny decorations, but Easter is so much more. We celebrate Easter because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. His bodily resurrection enables all those who choose to follow Him to have assured victory over our greatest enemy…death!

I look forward each year when some of my favorite blooms display their amazing beauty in our garden. Snowball viburnum in its full glory with large creamy white blooms. Climbing Lady Banks Rose is covered in hundreds of miniature yellow blooms cascading to the ground. An old-fashioned Bridal Wreath Spirea with its branches arching to the ground in a fountain-like growth habit is loaded with showy double white flowers in clusters of three to six that resemble a bride’s wreath. I still claim the Kwanzan Cherry tree even though it is now on our son’s property. Its ruffled pink double pink blossoms are some of my favorite blooms. All four of these blooms make up an arrangement with a few tulips from the grocery store.

A fluffle of moss bunnies hopped up to the picnic table. A ‘Charming’ tablecloth with Mary Lake-Thompson napkins and Williams Sonoma enchanting ‘Famille Rose’ bunny plates!

I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on m I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on my blog. My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!

It is Tea on Tuesdays and I have set a tea table with the “Blue Roses” collection that was a collaboration between @victoriamagazine and @april.cornell The exclusive porcelain pattern and matching linens have been used many times and I still enjoy their blue and white beauty. Instead of fresh flowers, porcelain ones require no arranging. Sweet treats pair perfectly with a traditional English Breakfast tea. Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluf Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluffing for Valentine’s Day! For many years my Sweetheart and I have celebrated February 14th at home where it is quiet, no reservations are required, and we always have a table by the window!

I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate! I am a huge fan of mixing colors, patterns, and textures for a collected look.

Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I am serving my favorite tea, Earl Grey, in the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy! The magic of dancing sunlight enhances the table that is dressed with a warm tartan plaid throw repurposed as a tablecloth! ‘Winter Fauna’ bird salad plates from Pottery Barn (many years ago and now discontinued) remind me of the birds I watch from my kitchen window during the winter season. The Grace Teaware set adds more blue and white to the Spode ‘Blue Room’ dinner plates. Sweet treats were placed on a stack of Bordallo Pinheiro plates! A darling Hummel ‘Icy Adventure’ depicts a scene of an outdoor frozen pond with a pair of sweet ice skaters, a rosy cheeked boy and girl who have fallen down on the ice.
