An English Garden Style Flower Arrangement

June 5, 2023~ Everyday Living, Flowers, Monday Morning Blooms, Tablescapes

Happy Monday! Summer seems to have arrived after an usually cool spring.

“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.”
‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭9‬:‭6‬ ‭

It is the first Monday of the month and I am joining Lidy, Mary, and our special guest for the June edition of Monday Morning Blooms.

The use of a watering can as a vase for our flower arrangement is this month’s common theme!

You will find all the links for my friends at the bottom of this post.

Mary, Lidy, and I are happy to welcome back Bonnie from Living With Thanksgiving! Bonnie is a fellow Alabamian, gardener, and traveler. She and I connected through blogging several years ago and have become good friends.

I set a table in the garden for the first time this year, and I am so happy you have chosen to join me! It was a beautiful late afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds.

“I always like to have flowers on the table. I think they make it look special.”
~Ina Garten

The floral “British Gardening Company” watering can was found at Home Goods a few months ago and it immediately jumped into my cart! A trip to Birmingham last week for an appointment provided an opportunity to visit Trader Joe’s for flowers. Purple stock, mini pink dianthus, yellow aster solidago, and burgundy solomio/raffine dianthus joined foraged native oak leaf hydrangeas from the woodlands. This combination provided the English garden style I was hoping to accomplish.

There was little fuss in the arranging of the flowers. The hydrangeas were placed first in the can and I simply added all the colorful flowers until they were pleasing to my eye.

The vintage luncheon tablecloth is reversible. The napkins depict the other side. You can view the tablecloth used with the reverse pattern in an earlier post.

As I mentioned, I wanted the floral arrangement to mimic the English garden style. This captures the essence of a picturesque English cottage garden with an abundance of colorful blooms and an unorganized natural style!

Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, Churchill ‘toile pink’ luncheon plate, Bordallo pinheiro ‘cabbage’ salad plate, and Spode ‘Mayflower’ saucer complete the plate stack. Vintage etched Fostoria stemware and vintage silver-plate flatware complete each place setting.

Late afternoon sunlight casts a soft glow on the flowers!

Sunshine Cottage was built in the summer of 2020 and it has made setting a table in the garden so much easier. I keep a lot of dishes displayed on shelves and stored underneath the counter out of sight, but handy enough to move to the garden table.

As I was removing everything off the table, I set the arrangement on the cottage porch. I liked seeing the cottage garden in the background, so why not take a photo?!

You can see the beautiful detail of the tablecloth in this photo.

Be sure to visit each of my talented friends for beautiful flower inspiration.

After completing my garden pics, I decided to enjoy the watering can in a different setting…the picnic table. I put this arrangement together on Wednesday and presumed it would fade quickly remaining outside in the heat. I was surprised the following day to discover the flowers still looked as fresh as ever, so I placed the can on the patio table where I forgot about it. To an even greater surprise, RM noticed it last evening and made a photo of it…and it still looked great!

Thank you for your visit and gracious comments. Wishing you a delightful week!

Pam, Your cheery watering can of blooms is perfectly reminiscent of English garden style! I love your pretty assortment of Trader Joe’s flowers mixed with your foraged oak leaf hydrangeas. The mix of flowers is as pretty as your dish layers and plate stack…and what gorgeous light you captured and were photographing in! I love seeing your arrangement on your table in your garden, as well as with the Sunshine Cottage in the background. Such a pretty tablecloth (reversible!) and contrast of the lavender against the yellow-gold foliage of your Sunshine Ligustrum and grasses in the pasture beyond the fence. It’s always a treat to have a virtual seat at your table and join you for some flower therapy. Happy June.♥

Pam, What a delightful floral watering can! I love your natural style English Garden style arrangement. And what a bonus that your tablecloth is reversible! Both sides are so lovely. I remember the cloth in your Mother’s Day post a few years ago. The flowers are so pretty. You were so smart the way you placed your cottage and designed your garden. Each side of your table has a lovely view. Your plate stack has so many beautiful pieces and shows off your great styling ability.
It was a delight to join you flower loving friends today.

I love flowers in the watering can. You share so much beauty. YOU bring so much beauty to our world. I didn’t realize the cottage was so “new”. It made me feel as though I’ve been around you longer than I think (☺️🪴🌻). The way the light hit, along with the shadows of the clouds, was perfect. The English Garden style takes me to places and times I feel a connection to; even if I’ve never been there except in my mind and heart ❤️. Thank you for helping me begin my week in such a pretty way! (ps~the accessories~the actual can, tablecloth, settings,…perfect!). Sending love and prayers every day, Pam. You all mean so much to me.💛🪴🌿🌸💐💕🙏🏻 🎶

Thank you my precious friend. The English country style is my favorite because of its floral patterns and homes filled with collections attained over many years and generations. I wish you could join me for a glass of iced tea in the cottage. It is in the 90’s today and the cottage has AC.

I love you and you are always in my prayers 💜💕💛🌸🎶🩷🙏🏻🙏🏻

It’s my blessing, Pam. Your reasons for loving that style are just mine, too. I love history, historical homes, floral patterns (I’m wearing a floral headband and pigtails-I think I live in the wrong time period, Pam!). I’d love to have tea sitting in the cottage with the A.C. As I just hit “publish” to conclude my little camping series, it became dark outside. The rain is gently falling and I can rest a bit now and enjoy this time here. I’m with you in spirit and heart! Thank you for being you. Much much love. 💚❤️💕

Pam, it truly looks like you are in the midst of the English countryside with this arrangement. The tablecloth and flowers are beautiful in the dappled sunlight. Our nearest TJ’s is 40 minutes away in Greenville and the one time time I drove over with for flowers, they were completely sold out! Hope the rest of your trip to Birmingham went well and perhaps ended with a delicious dessert. Hugs!

The flowers on the outside of the watering can add even more floral joy. Your table cloth, isn’t that the prettiest thing?! That the damask pattern is reversible is the beauty of that type of weaving, isn’t it? Your cloth is a particularly beautiful color that is rare to find, what a beauty. It’s the perfect backdrop for your lovely table setting. Love seeing your garden in the background, it is beautiful at every time of year but particularly this time of year. “A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!

Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of s Happy Monday! With March bringing the promise of spring and looking forward to our garden awakening, I planted a blooming bulb garden in my Sunshine Cottage! The butcher block countertop under a window, was a perfect place for a mini garden. Muscari, hyacinths, tulips, and daffodils danced in the sunlight and filled the cottage with an amazing fragrance!

Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage whe Happy Tuesday! Welcome to the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy on this cold February day. It is Tea on Tuesdays and I have set a tea table with the “Blue Roses” collection that was a collaboration between @victoriamagazine and @april.cornell The exclusive porcelain pattern and matching linens have been used many times and I still enjoy their blue and white beauty. Instead of fresh flowers, porcelain ones require no arranging. Sweet treats pair perfectly with a traditional English Breakfast tea. Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold Happy first Monday of February! After so many cold days, we are experiencing a tease of spring with a 73 degree day that is forecast. After the gray and cloudy days, I needed a dose of color and decided to set a colorful citrus themed brunch! Using a bird gold and pewter stand, I mixed a citrus medley of lemons, oranges, and limes with pink and white carnations as the centerpiece. The table is highlighted with blue and white dishware. Fresh squeezed orange juice, French-pressed coffee and sweet treats of lemon poppyseed muffins, lemon cake with lemon icing, and lemon pastries are perfect for a small brunch. A faux lemon topiary belonged to my beloved Mother and seemed a perfect addition to a citrus-themed table! You are invited to join me and my Monday Morning Blooms friends, Lidy @frenchgardenhouse Sarah @sjpa48 and Mary homeiswheretheboatsis.net by clicking the LINK in my bio!

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluf Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where I have been fluffing for Valentine’s Day! For many years my Sweetheart and I have celebrated February 14th at home where it is quiet, no reservations are required, and we always have a table by the window!

I love the traditional colors of red and pink! Frilly carnations fill a vintage Staffordshire, ‘Charlotte’ pitcher which rests on an antique Limoges plate with a velvet gold-crowned heart. The plate stack consists of a Royal Stafford ‘Asiatic pheasant’ dinner plate, American Atelier ‘Baroque’ luncheon/salad plate, Johnson Brothers, ‘Winchester’ salad plate, and a vintage pierced Bavarian rose plate! I am a huge fan of mixing colors, patterns, and textures for a collected look.

I have joined 17 table stylists for a Valentine’s Day Blog Hop. Click the LINK in my bio to see all of the Valentine inspiration!

Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I Happy Tuesday! On this very cold winter’s day, I am serving my favorite tea, Earl Grey, in the Sunshine Cottage where it is warm and cozy! The magic of dancing sunlight enhances the table that is dressed with a warm tartan plaid throw repurposed as a tablecloth! ‘Winter Fauna’ bird salad plates from Pottery Barn (many years ago and now discontinued) remind me of the birds I watch from my kitchen window during the winter season. The Grace Teaware set adds more blue and white to the Spode ‘Blue Room’ dinner plates. Sweet treats were placed on a stack of Bordallo Pinheiro plates! A darling Hummel ‘Icy Adventure’ depicts a scene of an outdoor frozen pond with a pair of sweet ice skaters, a rosy cheeked boy and girl who have fallen down on the ice.
