Happy Tuesday and welcome sweet friends! The autumnal equinox is September 22nd and that is when fall officially begins. However, September 1st marked the beginning of meteorological fall, and since autumn happens to be my favorite, I say, “let the season begin”! We enjoyed last week’s cooler temperatures and lower humidities. Hopefully, more of the same this week!
“The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing.”
Zephaniah 3:17 (ESV)
Oh, the colorful bliss of autumn…it awakens all my senses! Unmistakable autumnal fragrances are captured and carried by a northwest breeze that whispers through the treetops while subtle but sure changes in the colors that surround me have become evident as I stand and gaze across the garden. I begin dreaming of a slice of pumpkin bread and a mug of hot apple cider. Long-time readers may recognize that those words are not mine, but are from my Renaissance Man. One day I may share all of his talents with you!
All is well, it is the colorful bliss of autumn, my favorite season! I am excited to join fourteen inspiring table stylists for a Welcoming Fall Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by my lovely friend, Rita at Panoply. You will find all the links for creative tablesettings at the bottom of this post.
My wrought iron table sits between our main garden and our cottage garden. The main garden’s panicled hydrangeas are normally spent by mid to late August, but the cottage garden is still in bloom! Zinnias and giant yellow and orange marigolds offer autumn color, while the Autumn Fire sedum’s beautiful soft pink blooms will soon be turning a brilliant red brick color. I decided to use the April Cornell ‘Meridian’ tablecloth that was also used on yesterday’s Monday Morning Blooms, but changed other elements to give it a different look.
For the flower arrangement, I changed the copper pitcher to a MacKenzie-Childs Flower Market vase. To the dahlias, I added Chaste tree blooms and Autumn Fire Sedum. This was an easy change that gave the flower arrangement a new look!
Spode ‘Woodland’ is my favorite fall pattern. I kept the handsome faux leather chargers from yesterday’s table, but all the other elements are different. This octagonal salad plate depicts male and female wood ducks. Wood ducks are sometimes seen in wooded areas along the creek where it empties into the river near our house. In most bird species, the male is more colorful than the female!
Our large ‘Adagio’ maiden grass provides a background of feathery fall texture! Acrylic tortoise flatware replaced the copper from yesterday’s table.
Quilted placemats and matching napkins were added to today’s table. It softened the look, added more pattern, and offered a mix of colors and textures which I love!
“The weather just went from 90 to 55 like it saw a state trooper.”
~Unknown
That happened last week when we set a record low of 52 one morning!
Pheasants are beautiful birds, but our habitat is not suitable to support them surviving in the wild. We must enjoy them on plates and paintings!
The zinnias planted next to the Sunshine Cottage are taller than I am and hopefully will offer blooms well into October!
A little sparkle was added to the table with these napkin rings!
I often describe the stemware in jewel colors of peridot, amethyst, and amber. It is a popular choice for my fall tables and was purchased years ago at Tuesday Morning. I certainly miss that store because I always found plenty of things that I didn’t need!
We occasionally see quail, but not nearly as much as in the past. RM says we have the northern bobwhite quail, but their numbers have been in sharp decline for several decades. There are a lot of theories as to why this has occurred. It is likely due to a combination of factors.
“September is dressing herself in showy dahlias and splendid marigolds and starry zinnias.”
~Oliver Wendell Holmes
I hope you were able to see how easily you can change up a table by using the same tablecloth, but getting two totally different looks!
Mallard ducks are often seen in our nearby lakes. The male’s bright iridescent green head is unmistakeable!

Good morning Pam, I love the changes you made to create a new fall table! Your MKC Flower Market vase makes the perfect vessel for your bouquet of dahlias, Chaste tree blooms and Autumn Fire Sedum. Your blooms in your garden make the perfect backdrop to your table, including the plumes of maiden grass! Your AC ‘Meridian’ really strikes a chord with me…I love combination of greens and browns that are really accented by the greens in your landscape and garden and your goblets echo the colors in your table perfectly. I had to chuckle at the quote “The weather just went from 90 to 55 like it saw a state trooper”…so true 😊 Happy Tuesday and wishing you a wonderful week ahead 🍂🧡
Good morning, Pam. Yes, this week looks to be another gift of a preview to true fall, and I’m in the meteorological camp of fall enthusiasts!
Your cottage garden backdrop is an absolutely perfect match to the OWH quote and your tabletop. I recognized the cloth from yesterday, but you effortlessly created a whole new look with the classic Woodland Spode and a few other elements. That stemware is my favorite of yours, I just love the mix of colors. the layers of placemats and napkins enhance that cottage garden feel, as does the Flower Market vase and added vlooms to the dahlias centerpiece. The tortoise flatware pairs very well with the season, a great choice.
Pam, thanks so much for you & Butch tending and sharing your beautiful garden, and joining in this blog hop. I appreciate you!
Pam I love how you changed out your table while still incorporating a few of the same elements from your lovely table yesterday. It shows not only your versatility, it shows your simple way of setting a beautiful table….encouraging others that we really don’t need multiple pieces to have a pretty table. However, between you and me, we all know we have more table setting pieces than we care to admit. Your garden provides beauty and is the envy of us all as no matter the season, there is delight for someone to see. Your maiden grass is arching so gracefully and I was disappointed the other day when our lawn people came and “trimmed” my beautiful grasses in the Secret Garden. I’m sure they thought they were just shaping up the garden…but they were doing far more than that….but they will grow quickly as this is Florida where everything grows 24-7, 365 days of the year. I so appreciate Butch’s sentiments in prose…he does have multiple talents as you acknowledge. Happy September my friend.🍁🍂🐿️🌻🏈🍎
Your fall table is gorgeous. I love the maiden grass as your back drop. We are feeling like fall this week with temps in the 50’s. I hope we warm up so the flowers can hang on a little longer. It’s hard to believe summer is ending and fall beginning. Time really does fly. Have a great new week. Hugs. Kris
Thanks so much, Kris. Our temps have been lower, but we are back in the 90’s next week for a day or two!
Ok you have stirred the pot now a list of RM’s talents must be one of your posts❣️I know he is talented because of the Sunday posts and that he has a crazy sense of humor. Also that he sings ( sounds like John Denver) and plays the guitar. Oh and I hope he is fully recovered ! I love that you can smell the difference in the Fall breezes. And that you are aware of the Fall shadows and the difference in them. I did notice how the setting on your table today was more colorful made that way by the napkins rings and napkins. I love color! So when the trees change colors, then I’ll also love the Fall season too.
Alice, you already know some of his talents. He is fully recovered. I also love color, and I hope we see fall color. Thank you, dear one!
Pam, as always, your presention is spot on. I, too, favor autumn, and I, too, quoted Butch on my post. He is certainly gifted with words! You are an excellent writer as well, Pam. I so enjoy reading your dialog as I scroll through the gorgeous images. Best kind of book! Your mix of pattern, colors and textures is just what draws me into a table. You do it with ease.
Thank you for sharing your talents, for inspiring me, and for your positive spirit that is reflected in all you create. Happy Autumn, my friend!
Pam, it is always a pleasure to visit your beautiful garden and see your gorgeous floral arrangements–you have captured the sentiment of the Oliver Wendell Holmes quote perfectly! Blessings, Cecilia @ My Thrift Store Addiction
What a lovely pop of autumn colour Pam! Dahlia’s are certainly having their moment right now, and the vase you have chosen to display them really adds to their beauty. I love the colour mix of patterns and textures. The Spode plates certainly are a show stopper, as are the stemware! We have never had Tuesday Morning here in Canada, but I can relate to finding all the things I don’t need whenever I walk into HomeSense! Your gorgeous gardens always had a whole other element of beauty to your tables!
Good morning Pam, you have created a very warm welcome to fall. Your collection of April Cornell is lovely. Love that you are using the Mackenzie Childs flower market vase. The dahlias, Chaste tree blooms and Autumn Fire Sedum are stunning as always, especially against the backdrop of your maiden grass. The tortoise flatware is a perfect choice. I love Spode dishware for fall. You have a lovely collection. Always a pleasure to join you.
I always love reading your posts Pam! The first thing that passed through my mind when I saw your first picture was “Oh – Gorgeous!” and then the first word I read was Oh! As I continued to read, I thought, “she’s sounding more like her husband every day!” 🤣 You two are amazing, and so inspiring to me – and I haven’t even read the rest of the post yet! But I think my initial thought says it all. This is absolutely lovely – such a soft and beautiful autumn welcome! Isn’t it fun to change out just a few things for a whole different look? I love what you did here. And I love sharing these hops with you! Take care down there, and Happy Fall!
I just love how you were able to change out this beautiful table from your post yesterday, what an inspiration! I am actually trying to do more of this very thing! Your fall colors and table settings are such lovely signs of fall. Our days here are getting shorter and our nights cooler. Your garden colors are such a joy as they change and are tended to by you and your multi talented RM! Many Thanks Pam 🍂🌾🍂
Thank you, Sue. It was fun to change it but still use the same tablecloth! I always say shop your house before you buy!
Good afternoon dearest Pam! Amazing how your substitutions made a such a change in your beautiful table! The sunlight has taken on a different tone too.
I’ve noticed the late afternoon sun shines in a different angle into the house now. Would your RM be willing to share some gardening secrets? My zinnias never get that tall or prolific! (Maybe bc I just toss the seeds and hope for the best???). September is going to fly by, so hope you get to enjoy every moment of this week.
Thank you, Roxanne. I love the light and shadows as fall approaches, it is beautiful! I am sure RM would share with you. We will talk soon!
I love how you changed out some things on your table to give it a new look, Pam. Your Spode pattern is indeed perfect for Fall and I’m loving those acrylic flatware pieces. Great job, Pam!
Thank you, Kitty! The Spode is the one I use the most for fall!
Spode Woodland is one of my favorite patterns so I am enjoying how you’ve set up for a fall tablescape.Pretty flowers as always Pam. So much color and patters, lovely setting for fall.
Thank you, Emily! I use the Spode for everyday during the fall season. It truly is my favorite!
Pam, your tablescapes are full of autumn blessings – set for the perfect feast!
Thank you, Mary for your sweet comments!
Pam, I really love your brown plate stacks on your pretty green linens. I love all the colors on your table, and the white vase used for your centerpiece pops agains the other elements. So pretty! Happy autumn!
Pam, your table is so lovely and even more so with the Maiden grass and flower gardens in the background. Those zinnias and marigolds are really something. On the table, the first thing that caught my eye was those gorgeous dahlias in the pretty MKC vase. The AC tablecloth has lovely soft colors that accent the colors in the Spode Woodland plates and I can certainly see why they are favorites. Love the added pattern mix with the quilted placemats and napkins and the napkin rings that add a little sparkle. The leather placemats, goblets, and flatware tie in beautifully. A gorgeous table my friend and happy favorite season to you!
Pam, I’m loving that tablecloth even more! It’s so pretty with the combination of chargers and plates. Your bouquet looks so good in that pitcher as well! I’ve enjoyed sitting on our porch since we’ve had some cooler weather thanks to lower humidity. Now we really need rain since August was relatively dry. I’m going to have to change our tables and mantel to fall decor even though we’re still in low 90’s. I’m just ready for it to happen! Your table has inspired me! Thank you! Clara❤️
P. S. I love the sparkly napkin rings and your glasses are a perfect complement to table!
Thank you, dear one❤️
Thank you, Clara. We are going to be in the 90’s next week for a day or two. The cooler weather has spoiled me. We desperately need rain!
The colorful bliss of autumn. Oh Pam, that the most perfect poetic description I’ve ever heard. And of course it is illustrated in the best possible way with your gorgeous table settings. Lovely in every way.
How sweet, Jeanie! Thank you!
The vase is stunning! And with that gorgeous bouquet, even more so.
Amalia

Thank you, Amalia! Happy Wednesday!
Good Morning, Pam. I am a tad late, but a lot is going on with family visits. My heart is full!
The browns and greens in your linens, china, silverware, and glassware create a table perfect for an autumn gathering in your garden.
Your maiden grass is such a gorgeous backdrop, but your MKC vase filled with garden blooms is quite stunning.
I love Butch’s beautiful words. The two of you need to assemble a lovely book of his quotes and your photography. I would buy it!
Happy September, dear friend!
Thanks so much, Nancy! Enjoy your family visits and savor each moment, my friend!
I love the way you tweaked your Monday Morning Blooms table into a whole new look Pam! The colorful pitcher MKC with the beautiful fallish blooms immediately draws you in and you want to linger and enjoy some Fall treats. Beautiful!
Thanks so much, Jenna. I miss your creativity so much on the blog hops and hope you can join us soon!
What a beautiful setting to share a lovely outdoor tablescape with us. Your grasses provide a dramatic backdrop to a very sweet table. Love the tablecloth that sets the tone for the table. Using leather placemats with their neutral color woks will with your Spode china. The pattern is a favorite of mine, as well. However, the vase filled with beautiful flowers really caught my eye the first time I saw the table. It makes the centerpiece stand out even more beautifully. Lovely way to welcome Fall to the table.
Lynne, Thrifting Wonderland
Absolutely stunning, truly. And there is nothing quite as beautiful as an outdoor setting.
Very well done, Pam.
Thank you, Michele! I do love setting a table in the garden!
Love this post! The way you describe autumn really brings it to life—I can almost feel the crisp air and smell the pumpkin bread. Your tablescape ideas are stunning and so creative! I’ve been working on some family law matters with a few lawyers lately, so life has been hectic, but posts like this are a wonderful escape. Thanks for sharing such cozy vibes!
Jeanie, thank you. I am so glad that you enjoyed and that it was a wonderful escape! I hope you will come back for more visits!
Amazing dishes and wonderful centerpiece! Happy September.
Pam, you’ve perfectly captured the fabulous burst of color that is fall! Layering textures and patterns presents diners with a visual feast that echoes your beautiful garden. Plus it’s al fresco! I love Spode’s Woodland pattern as well and never tire of seeing it. But I think the octagonal plates are a new look, or at least I’ve not seen them before. The flowers in the center are lovely and their placement in the floral vase was a great choice. Hope you continue to have a wonderfully colorful Autumn.
Pam, what a feast for the eyes! 🍂 The colors in your arrangement absolutely sing with autumn joy. Those dahlias paired with apples and pumpkins are breathtaking. You have such a gift for making every view in your garden and home look like a page from a magazine. So inspiring! Such a joy to welcome Fall with you!!
Your gift to add and change a few things, creating an entirely new look, is amazing! This was such a beautiful table. God bless you, sweet friend!
