Hello friends and Happy Tuesday! I cannot believe that half of September has passed. How quickly days fade away into months and new seasons come and go before we know it.
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.”
Isaiah 26:3-4 ESV
September is the gateway to my favorite month of October! However, I have thoroughly enjoyed these September days of cooler nights and days of lower humidities! Unfortunately, it is heating back up into the 90’s this week!
Not only are these September days a pleasure, but tea in the cottage garden adds simple pleasures. It is the September edition of Tea on Tuesdays with my friend Mary. We are thrilled to welcome back Kitty, a fellow tea enthusiast, from Kitty’s Kozy Kitchen as our special guest.
Our larger garden area is tired after a long summer, but the cottage garden is still in bloom, making it ideal for teatime!
A Fitz and Floyd pheasant teapot was a gift from RM in 1997, the year it was introduced. It is one of my favorites!
The pheasant teapot was serving up a delicious Trader Joe’s caffeine-free Harvest Blend Herbal Tea of cinnamon, hibiscus, chamomile, and orange peel.
Autumn Fire Sedum is blooming in the cottage garden and is shown in many of the images in this post. A majolica pitcher was laden with sedum and seed heads from coneflowers for a simple arrangement! Since gardening is labor intensive, it is rewarding to cut blooms from our garden!
“September bounds joyfully into the spotlight on centerstage and rightly boasts of bringing to us equal moments of daylight and darkness, but soon thereafter must plan an exit, taking notice that October is warming up backstage.”
~Butch Richardson
My beloved Mother’s petite cake stand was placed on antique books to serve sweets. If given a choice between sweet and savory, I will always choose sweet! If you have to make a choice, what would you choose?
Last winter I shared a Hummel figurine on my January tea table, and several of you commented about it. Long-time readers know that I am a collector to a fault. A rather large collection of Hummel figures fill an antique French glass front cabinet in our primary bedroom. Once they were highly sought after collectibles, but then were not so popular. I recently read on Better Homes & Gardens website that they are making a comeback. Regardless, I love their sweet rosy cheeks! ‘Friends’ was chosen because we often see spotted fawns…
…in our pastures and sometimes close to our house in late summer!
A precious friend gave me the ‘Little Hiker’, and that was the beginning of my collection. He was given a spot on the tea table because Butch loves to hike the trails in the 250 acres that are adjacent to our property and shares many of his hikes on his Simple + Southern Sunday posts. Our son and family are also hikers, but me, not so much!
Vintage Olfaire leaf plates are perfect for serving sweets in the fall season!
While I was taking photos, Butch was out on the grounds with his camera looking for some interesting possibilities for a SSS post. I think he was spying on me from a distance. He made this photo with his 600mm lens from another part of the yard. When he revealed his photos to me later I decided this one was a keeper!
A couple of months ago I discovered mini pecan pies at my favorite local gift shop. Stopping by to purchase my two pounds of coffee, I was chatting with another customer and noticed she was buying several of the mini pecan pies. Of course, I had to question her about them. She said they were fabulous, so I bought two for us to try. They tasted like homemade and are very close to my Mother’s pecan pie. Now I am hooked, they are the perfect size and are made in Troy, Alabama by the Whaley Pecan Company. Other sweets were from Trader Joe’s…pumpkin biscotti, apple shortbread cookies, and white, milk, and dark chocolate confections in assorted fall shapes! Believe it or not, I am on a diet and haven’t had any of these wonderful treats!!
An older plaid tablecloth and vintage napkins were placed in service for the small table for two!
As you all know, I love to mix it up on a table! The teacup is by Grace Teaware and reminds me of the fall season!
The large maidenhair fern in the background sitting atop my garden table is quite special. I received a beautiful white orchid when my sweet Daddy passed away in March. There was a small maidenhair fern in with the orchid. I was hoping I could keep it alive and just look at it now! I am not good with houseplants and I have no idea if I can keep it after it turns cold. I certainly hope so.
Looking at the table from this direction you see colorful vinca spilling out of the old Schwinn adult tricycle’s basket and large plumes of our Adagio Maiden Grass!
You have special invitations to join Mary and Kitty for tea!

Good morning Pam, It’s always a treat to have a virtual seat and join at a table in your garden! Love the abundance of blooms of your Autumn Fire Sedum and colorful vinca overflowing your bicycle’s basket. I adore your majolica pitcher at your table paired with your handsome Fitz and Floyd pheasant teapot. I love your sweet Hummel figures and real life fawn photo too! I’m not a collector, but have always admired their sweet faces and expressions. Your treats sound so tempting, especially the mini pecan pies…just the right size and I admire your willpower! Thank you for sharing your garden and teatime this morning. ☕ Wishing you a wonderful week ahead and stay cool with these warming temperatures. 🍂🧡
Thank you, Mary. Butch is so disciplined when it comes to diet and exercise, but it is a chore for me. I have lost the pounds I wanted to lose, but I plan to stay with my program for a couple of months. But, the hardest months are ahead with the holidays😉
Oh Pam, what a delightful September tea you’ve set up for us to enjoy. If I had to choose a treat, sweet always wins out over savory for me. Your F&F gifted teapot from Bruce is the perfect choice for your plaid laden table. Those leaf plates are darling, and you have a sweet memory of your mom with the petite cake stand. The cute Hummels do indeed have the sweetest faces. Of course your beautiful garden is always the perfect setting for any teatime. Thank you for honoring me as a guest host for September’s Tea on Tuesdays. Happy Fall! 🌻☕️🌻
Kitty, so you also love sweets! It seems we have much in common. I always enjoy your posts and it is a pleasure to have you as our guest. Happy Autumn 🌻🧡
I am in heaven! I get to sit with you for tea in your cottage gardens.
Good morning, Pam.
Your arrangement with the sedum and coneflower seed heads is a lovely addition to your table. I am going to do the same! I have both in the garden, but our sedum has not yet turned red.
I always enjoy seeing your pheasant teapot. What a lovely gift from Butch!
I am enjoying your Hummels this morning. You do know it was you who got me to start collecting bejeweled trinket boxes. Now I may want to start a cute Hummel collection. I see them often when antiquing. Yours are darling! Especially when they emulate real life. Your real-life deer and the adorable deer Hummel are both darling! Such cute faces!
Thank you for the tea today. I thoroughly enjoyed myself. 🧡
Oh, you are so sweet Nancy. My arrangement is 7 days old and it is still as fresh as can be. Nancy, I love my bejeweled boxes. I know one day I will have to purge, but until then I will enjoy. My sweet granddaughters want everything, but they are a long way from being adults. Happy Tuesday 🧡
They will love all your treasures! Sweet memories!
I’m a Hummel collector too, although I’ve only a small collection, maybe 10 or 11 of them. I love how you used them in your centerpiece and I may have to do that as well someday. These tea posts are making me itchy to host an autumn tea myself! I love that you bought many of your treats. Makes it so much easier — I always feel so stressed to bake all my own. Thanks for the “permission.” It looks gorgeous.
Jeanie, I would love to see your Hummel collection, we might have some of the same. I need to
count mine. Buying treats makes it easier to host a tea. I will look forward to your teatime!
Oh Pam, this is the perfect thing to greet my morning! Your entire tea setting is absolutely stunning. All of the rich autumn colors and your pretty bouquet of Autumn Blaze sedum with Coneflower pods is so pretty. Your Hummel collection makes such a lovely addition to your tea table. I love their sweet faces. The tea blend you chose sounds delicious and perfect for fall. Also, all of those treats look yummy. Your gardens in the background are gorgeous. Mine are looking very tired from a hot summer. We are back into the 90s this week. Hopefully, cooler weather is on the horizon. My dear friend, I hope that you have a most wonderful day!
Thanks so much, Shannon. Our garden looks tired and weary. We water but it is not the same as rain. Wishing you a lovely week, dear friend!
Precious Pam, I’m so excited that I can comment in Reader! I don’t know how~ but it’s a miracle! Seeing your tablescapes, the precious heirlooms from your Mom, thinking of your Daddy, the little hiker, pecan pies, plaid, and Trader Joe’s tea are all reminders of God’s goodness!
I’m so happy to see all of the beauty. We share the same favorite times of the year!
Pam, I’m so excited. I’m going to go teach 2nd grade for a few hours today. I won’t overdo it (last week I helped with autistic children)! I’ll see my oncologist on Friday for bloodwork and see how my liver is going. I have a new specialist in Kansas City near my youngest son I’ll see when I go visit next week. God is SO good! I love you so much and appreciate all your prayers. You lift my spirits so much!💚🙏💚 🍂 🍁 🫖 ☕️ 🧡 🥰🙏💚
Yay!! Yes, there are constant reminders of God’s goodness. Please let me know how your teaching precious little ones in the second grade has gone today. Great news that you have a new specialist near your youngest son. Love and prayers always precious Karla 🙏🏻🧡🥰
Hello, Pam! I pray your week has been wonderful!
I made it through the day, but admittedly, I was so tired too! I took today “off” to recoup! And tomorrow, I’ll see my regular oncologist for blood draw and visit before seeing the specialist NEXT Friday!
Thank you for your prayers! I love you and pray for you all, too! 💖❤️🎶🙏
Good Morning Pam. Your fall table is beautiful. The Sedum is absolutely the star of the table.
Glad to see sweet Kitty back with her tea table for fall. Love seeing all your creative hearts making beautiful table settings. Happy New Week. Hugs. Kris
Thank you, Kris! The sedum is really beautiful this year even though we have had little rain this month. Butch waters it every day. Have a wonderful week!
I hope you can keep the fern also. It’s lush now . Maybe there is a spot in Butch’s shed as it will drop leaves. Hummel was very popular in the early 60’s. I needed a gift for my wonderful aunt that housed me for a while and I gave her the little boy and girl going to school with their lunch boxes. All of my sweet aunties are gone now and I miss them, I just heard Robert Redford passed away at age 89. Oh I love pecan pie and always make one for thanksgiving. Have many happy memories of sharing with family and friends. The pheasant teapot is beautiful. Special because Butch gave it to you.
Alice, I may try Butch’s workshop for the fern to overwinter. What a sweet gift to your aunt. All of my aunts are gone except two. I had not heard about Robert Redford passing away. These mini pecan pies are delicious and don’t allow us a second helping which is a good thing. Wishing you a beautiful week!
Good morning, sweet Pam! I love this long, chatty post. Those sweet Hummel figures were the first thing I noticed. The two you chose were perfect. Butch’s quote is so true. I do love a good pecan pie. I had to comment on Steve Bender’s page about the pronunciation of “pecan”! We say puh-can. Not pee-can or pee-cahn! You can keep that fern alive. My sister has them in a window box outside in Charleston. They die back if there is a freeze, then come back. You might need to bring yours inside. My mother had a HUGE maidenhair on our porch when I was a child. When she caught my cat, Snoop, napping in the middle of it, she was so mad and threatened to make kitten britches out of him!!
Yes, I am very chatty in person as you know. You say pecan like I do, I don’t understand the other pronunciations, I guess it is what you hear growing up. I should have mentioned how much my sweet Daddy loved to shell pecans for my Mother’s cakes, pies, and all things that need pecans. I will have to bring the fern inside or maybe inside Butch’s workshop. Love the Snoop story, sweet Roxanne!
Wow! Your fern really flourished! Your tea table is gorgeous! I love the pheasant tea pot and your linens. The sweets look delicious! The majolica pitcher has a lovely bouquet. The leaf plates are perfect! I’m afraid we won’t have a lot of color this fall because of the drought. Our leaves are drying up and falling off. Your cute Hummel figures are so cute and sweet. I love them because they depict a child’s precious innocence. It’s been in the mid 90’s here, but with low humidity, so it’s not nearly as oppressive. We got a brief shower in the night on Sunday. We were so thankful as we’re in extreme drought now. Hope you have a wonderful week! Clara❤️
Thank you, Clara. We need rain and yes leaves are drying up and falling. I do hope we see some color this autumn. Butch started watering our grass in and around the garden yesterday. Wishing you a lovely week❤️
Those leaf plates! I love them. I have the same pheasant teapot that is about to make an appearance here. It has been near 100 degrees around here, so no sipping tea out of doors.
Thanks so much, Pattie! I will be looking for your pheasant teapot’s appearance. Stay cool!
This is such a sweet post Pam! I too have a precious friend that sent me a beloved Hummel from Germany! I hadn’t thought of putting it on my table for tea, but most certainly will do so now! Your leaf plates really celebrate the season. After such a sad week, it was delightful being with you for tea and being uplifted and surrounded in the beauty of your yard and autumnal tea table. All of your treats look delicious, especially on your mother’s sweet petite stand; to answer your question though, I enjoy the savory morsels the most. Have a wonderful week.🧡
Thank you Sue. How sweet to receive a Hummel from a precious friend. All of mine have memories attached which make them special. Enjoy those savory morsels! Happy September days🧡
Yes to Fall in your amazing yard! It is always so refreshing to visit you and be reminded that not everywhere is it as dry and colorless as it is this time of year here in Texas. It has been so difficult to get into the Fall decor mood. I love the Fitz & Floyd Pheasant piece and how you added the Hummel figurines to the grouping. Such a sweet touch.
You are so sweet, Elizabeth. Thanks so much for your visit. Hopefully you will begin to see signs of Autumn!
Just love your Autumn table settings; a mixture of beauty, sentiment and delicious. When we lived in Switzerland, I was kept hopping over
to Germany to pick up Hummels at friends’ request..they were the rage.
Although less popular now, those who own them tend to not part with them..
They are so darling and redolent of a more innocent time Those pecan
pies are calling and I must try to find them locally. Thank you for the
perfect blend of color and form to set the Fall mood.
Thank you Mary. I think that most of my Hummels were collected in the late 70’s and early 80’s. I highly recommend the pecan pies. Wishing you a lovely weekend, dear friend!
I will choose the sweets any day of the week Pam and would love to sit at your table enjoying your beautiful gardens (especially love the sedum and grasses) and perhaps see deer much like your adorable Hummel figures. I would have to touch the pheasant tea pot which I have always admired. I also love the touches from your sweet Mother such as the lovely stand on the antique books. Your linens are a perfect choice…you inspire me with all the elements on your table. The weather here in Florida has been cooling down with the addition of daily rains…we just ask that the “systems” stay out in the middle of the oceans to not cause damage or harm to any people anywhere. Hugs and Blessings my friend🥰🙏🏻🍁🌻🍂🍎🏈
Thank you, Kari. More than likely if you joined me for tea, you would see a deer. Yes, all of the systems need to stay in the middle of the oceans!
Happy September days and blessings, my friend🙏🏻🧡🏈🅰️🍎
Pam, how I love your teatime (and table settings) outdoors in the garden. You say the garden is tired, yet it still really shines. You two have done a great job of planting colorful annuals for longer blooms. I love the Fitz & Floyd teapot and the maple leaf plates. The majolica pitcher with the unique mix of sedum and coneflower heads is eye-catching. I’m also still drawn to the Hunmel figurines, and have a few that I’ll happily keep with memories attached. How in the world can you be on a diet when your birthday is coming, or is it just leading up to that celebration?! I love how you & Butch snatch each other’s photos for your posts. Happy Teatime!
Rita, it has been an unusual garden season. A lot of our annuals just got tired and we got tired of watering them. They all looked great until the first of September, no rain impacted them greatly. I didn’t know you had Hummels, their faces are so sweet. I enjoyed pulling a couple out for my table. Since Butch retired, we have enjoyed photography! I am down to my desired weight, but I have continued to watch what I eat. Happy September days!
What a lovely outdoor setting. Your pheasant teapot is quite unique! Who wouldn’t love to be invited to tea at this table?
Thank you Michele for your sweet comments! Happy September days!
Oh Pam, sedum and cone flower heads. What a striking combination! And the good news is I do believe I have both right about now. Lovely! Thank you for this bit of fall-ish inspiriation, friend.
Thank you, Linda! Since you have both, I believe you can have a fall-ish arrangement!
A delightful post as always Pam, to answer your question I always go for savoury first. 😊
Those Pecan pies look absolutely delicious though.
Blessings sweet friend, Jennifer
Thank you, sweet friend!
Pam, you have crafted your tablescapes as beautiful as the season itself . . . I’m inspired!
Thank you, Mary. Happy September days!
Pam, as always your post is perfect for autumn, your Fitz & Floyd pheasant teapot is gorgeous, as is your majolica pitcher. The sedum and coneflower are so eye catching. Love the plaid and your maple leaf plates, definitely speaks fall to me. Your precious cake stand from your mother is a delight filled with lovely fall treats. A lovely tea time experience alfresco. Your hummers are adorable. Enjoy the rest of your week.
Thank you, Linda. We are back in the 90’s, but at least our nights are cooler. Wishing you lovely September days!
Hi Pam. What a lovely table outside for tea. The first thing I noticed was the pheasant tea pot – what a sweet gift from Butch all those years ago – and it must have many memories attached to it! I love the mix of patterns and colors from the tablecloth to the leaf plates and delicate tea cups. The sedum and coneheads in the majolica pitcher are beautiful and the Hummel figures are so sweet. I’m more of a savoury person but the goodies do look delicious. Happy Thursday!
Thank you, Kim for your sweet comments. I love a table with memories attached. I hope you have a wonderful weekend, my friend!
The bouquet looks amazing and quite original. And what a gorgeous collection of tea-cups you have.

Thanks so much Amalia. Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
Autumn is certainly in the air here in the mountains. I love this time of year so much! Another beautiful post, sweet friend!
Thank you, Cheryl! Blessings my friend!
