Hello sweet friends! I am excited to welcome cooler weather that has arrived this week bringing upper 30’s to some of our nights with daytime highs in the low 70’s. It finally feels like autumn and sweater weather!
“But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him”—
1 Corinthians 2:9 (ESV)
It is the October edition of Tea on Tuesdays! Mary and I are excited to welcome back our special guest and fellow tea enthusiast, Jennifer from Celebrating Everyday Life!
You will find the links for Mary and Jennifer at the bottom of this post.
Many of you will remember our resident scarecrow who came to live with us a couple of years ago. My precious granddaughters named her Charlotte Daisy and they look forward to playing with her when autumn comes around. Charlotte Daisy is excited to leave the stuffiness of Da’s (RM’s) workshop where she is stored each year. Last year she decided to prepare a tea party for EM and EK! It was a huge success and she planned an even bigger party for this October! You all are her special guests as well! Take it away, Charlotte Daisy!
First things first in planning my party! I had to decide on my table linens, dishware, and menu! The sweet girls’ grandmother, PJ, gave me the opportunity to look through her stacks of linen, but I decided to be adventuresome and use a throw for the table covering. When I first saw the majolica leaf plates, I knew they would be perfect for the sweet treats!
Last year, I used PJ’s lovely Blue Sky Clayworks pumpkin teapot and she graciously allowed me to use it again! Whew, I was happy to settle all of the preliminaries!
In case you missed the reveal of the Sunshine Cottage Autumn Porch, new friends have come to live at PJ’s and Da’s house. Da is a pushover when it comes to buying for his grandchildren! Just between us, I think he went overboard on buying more scarecrows. It could be crowded in his storage building when we are put away after the season is over. The grandchildren gave names to my new friends. EM (the oldest and the boss) informed me that I am 12 years old, which was a relief to know my age! Seated next to me on Nanny’s glider is Cornelia who is 7. Next to her is the youngest, cute little Zinnia who is only 2!
Precocious 4 year old Charlie drove the John Deere tractor around the pasture and picked up a few more friends! I don’t think we needed more scarecrows, at least that is what I overheard PJ say!
PJ helped me set the small table for a total of 8 scarecrows! Scarecrows can be picky about their food and drink. It is supposed to be a tea party, but some said they didn’t like hot tea. Since I am a gracious hostess, I accommodated their beverage whims. Hot tea for 4, chocolate milk for 2, and apple juice for 2. Hosting this large tea party was not a hayride in the pasture!
The party hasn’t even begun and I am already tired. I can’t believe PJ has teatime once a month!
PJ has a large collection of napkins (that makes sense since she is a collector and she and Da have been married almost 53 years)! But, I decided I didn’t want her to have to launder real napkins because scarecrows are messy and don’t have the best manners! These paper ones look real to my scarecrow eyes!
Scarecrows are not known for their kitchen skills. They spend their time in gardens and pastures scaring away those pesky crows! PJ shared a recipe that was simple for hot apple spiced tea! Made with Earl Grey tea, apple cider or juice, and spices, it was delicious and perfect for an autumn tea! Last year I fell in love with PJ’s Johnson Brothers ‘ Harvest Time’ dishware and decided to use it again! The copper mugs were for the apple juice (those picky scarecrows)!
PJ suggested that small honey and peanut butter bites would be ideal for teatime. Da makes them for the grands and they love them, especially when he cuts them into squares!
Nine year old Azalea is a little shy but loves to be helpful! She wanted to personally offer the scarecrow guests one of my tea sandwiches!
The S’mores Bars were the hit of the party. PJ had made them to take to an autumn potluck and they had gone over well. She was sweet to help me, I can be clumsy in the kitchen! The grandchildren really liked them and I was afraid they would eat all of them and my scarecrow guests wouldn’t even get to try them! But, they made sure to leave plenty for my guests!
Charlie loves the tractor even though it is hard to pedal in pea gravel. Da has saved many of the toys for the grands that were their daddy’s when he was little. PJ says he is real sentimental!
Charlie is mischievous just like 4 year old WL. He jumped off the tractor and hopped upon the pumpkins in the adult tricycle! He made himself comfortable as a small impressionable scarecrow joined him! PJ had to ask both of them to get down! Thankfully, they obeyed. We don’t want to upset PJ!
Little Zinnia escaped PJ’s eyes when she chose a seat on the plates!
Baby Sally (nicknamed plumpy) was dressed to the nines in her fashionable hat and collar! She didn’t realize her cute outfit had been soiled when her pumpkin belly bumped a brownie that she was attempting to swipe before the party began!
I baked brownies with PJ’s help. The grandchildren love brownies and all of us scarecrows had no idea how good they were until we tried them! We usually keep our weight in check, but now that we have enjoyed all of these sweets it might not be so easy! You know we don’t get much exercise, especially in the winter!
The real guests at this tea party were PJ’s and Da’s precious grandchildren! They are very sweet to us and come to visit often. WL said scarecrows were needed at his house and we were all invited to visit!
Charlotte Daisy and friends wish to invite you for fun teatimes with Mary and Jennifer!

Good morning Pam, Your scarecrow tea was a hoot! I so enjoyed Charlotte Daisy’s commentary, choice of linens and plates. She was so thoughtful to choose paper napkins on your behalf since ‘scarecrows are messy and don’t have the best manners’. 😂 I have long admired your adorable pumpkin teapot. Your hot apple spiced tea made with Eary Grey sounds wonderful…so accommodating with all the beverage choices and treats! I know the S’mores Bars, brownies and honey & peanut butter bites were enjoyed by all. Your grands are all adorable posing with the scarecrows! Thank you for the fun this morning, it’s always a treat to join you for tea. Wishing you (and the scarecrows) a wonderful week ahead!🍂☕🧡
Thank you, Mary! I enjoyed the tea recipe, I added extra on the spices!
What a delightful post! And it was wonderful to see the “friends” too! I love your teatime posts, Pam!
Thank you Jeanie for your sweet comments!
What a fun tea party. Love that Charlie drove the John Deere around and was able to pick up some friends to enjoy the tea party. The menu sounds delish. What a precious picture the grands and scarecrows together make. Happy New Week. Hugs. Kris
Aw thanks Kris for your sweet comments!
Good morning, Pam! I have so enjoyed reading about this fun scarecrow tea! Charlotte Daisy did a fabulous job as hostess. The linens and dishes she chose made such a gorgeous autumn tea setting. I’m happy you loaned her the sweet pumpkin teapot. It is so pretty on your table. All of the treats look scrumptious. I love honey and peanut butter sandwiches cut into squares. My grandmother made them like that for me when I was a little girl for an after school snack. The smore bars look and sound yummy. Your grandbabies are beautiful! I know they bring you so much joy. Happy October, sweet friend! Have a wonderful week and enjoy these lovely fall days!
Thank you for joining me for tea this morning. This grandmother is enjoying all the fun with the grands. I hope all is well, sweet friend!
Pam, Charlotte Daisy was the perfect hostess. The grands have all really grown and are so cute! The tea table is beautiful and adorned with fall color as is The Sunshine Cottage. The wooden cake pedestal is gorgeous! I love it! I know the grands enjoyed their tea party. The scarecrows are all fun and varied. Have a wonderful day. Clara❤️
Thank you Clara. The grands love a party❤️
Goodness, that Charlotte Daisy knows how to throw a tea party! She is definitely a Southern lady and gracious hostess. The human invited guests look like a very happy clan. I am invited to a tea party my “Clemson daughter” is throwing for her daughter, Iris, who is turning 3. Time is just flying with all these babies growing up. Hope you and RM have a blessed week and enjoy every second of this beautiful weather (we waited all summer for this!)
Thank you, Roxanne! Enjoy your tea party. Charlotte Daisy is in training and doing a great job
Who could resist an invitation to such a festive tea party, resplendent with tasty goodies
so cleverly concocted? Charlotte Daisy and kindred team are to be commended for setting
that colorful table of choice accessories. But the heart tugger is the collection of Grands who
brought their beautiful selves along with their enthusiasm and appetites. I can hear all the
giggles from here. I must say, that John Deere is a treasured keepsake. What a thoughtful
legacy to give one’s Grands. Tea and goodies were delicious and I stand ready to meet the
day with gratitude. Have a blessed one.
Thank you Mary! Da loves spoiling the grands. Their wish is his command! Blessings!
Such a bountiful and beautiful autumnal tea table, so delightful with such sweet guests! What a wonderful way to start the day…thank you!
How sweet and thank you, Sue!
What a wonderful time spent in the garden!!
I love EM’s glasses too!
Thank you sweetest Martha!
Loved the colors you used especially the leaf plates! Enjoyed the humor and seeing the grands all tucked in the bench with their friends. Well done.
How sweet are your comments! Thank you, Catherine!
I literally paused reading this, got busy, left the house, drove to the farmer’s market and bought pumpkins and fall decor. What a powerful influence you are! I’ll have to be careful not to read your post about buying all new shoes!
You are hilarious! Oh how I used to love shoes. Getting older sort of solved it for me!
Pam — this tea party with Charlotte Daisy & friends is pure delight! ☕🎃 The darling scarecrows absolutely melted my heart — they look ready to chat over tea and pie! 🍂 Everything feels like a storybook come to life, from the charming table to the cozy fall details. You always capture the magic of the season so beautifully! Your grandchildren are so blessed to have you and your wonderful husband! What a joy this autumn tea is!! Thank you again for allowing me to take tea with you!! 🫖🧡☕️🍂
You are so sweet! It is a pleasure to share tea with you. I am going to share your post with my granddaughters💕
I very much loved my tea party with Charlotte Daisy as the hostess, and with her family of scarecrows! I think Little Zinnia might be my favorite of all of them. The table, teapot, teacups and the majolica plates are so perfect for the serving of all the delicious drinks and treats. My favorite picture is the one at the end with the grands…how adorable they are and I know bring such joy. Thank you for the fun story today with the Scarecrow family.
Thank you Kitty! As one grandmother to another, grands do bring much joy!
ohmygosh, this was as sweet as can be, PJ! I love Charlotte’s commentary, and love the group picture! Thise napkins look like a textile!
Thank you, Rita! Our grands bring so much joy just as I know that J brings to you!
This was by far the cutest, the sweetest, the most adorable tea time EVER! Charlotte Daisy was a wonderful hostess and could tell a story just like PJ! All of her treats were perfect, and I bet everyone loved them. Her choices, from the throw to the plates to the leaf dishes and cute teapot, were fabulous!
All of your grandchildren are getting so big. I loved seeing them. Thank you for sharing them! I see lots of gorgeous blue eyes!
You outdid yourself, Charlotte Daisy! I loved being your guest.
Thank you Nancy! This was a fun post for me. The grands had the best time. Three grands with blue eyes and EM our oldest has brown eyes like her Mom! Charlotte Daisy says thanks for coming to her tea party!
🥰🤗🥰
Such a fun tea party Pam! And the cutest of grandies! That Apple spiced tea sounded pretty good too.
Blessings sweet friend, Jennifer

Wonderful Tea time! Your Grands are adorable… Such happiness!
Thank you, Maristella!
I read your blog all the time but haven’t commented before. But I had to this time. What a beatiful sweet post! I love seeing your lovely family. Those grands are precious! My mother had the Johnson Bros. Harvest Time china and we ate on it every day! I have always loved it. I don’t know what happened to her set. Wish I had it today. Took me back to my childhood for sure. Love the scarecrows also. Best ever decorations! Thanks for sharing this one!
Helen I am so glad you commented. It is so encouraging to know you read our blog! His sweet that your mother had Harvest Time china. I found it at an antique shop a few years ago, it has a few chips but I still love it. Your comments are heartwarming!
Charlotte Daisey did a great job hosting the Tea Party for your grandbabies and them grandbabies are precious in that picture.
Thank you Nancy. Our grandbabies bring us lots of joy!
Charlotte Daisy is very talented, but she has learned from the best of the best!
Thank you for the sweet comment! It warms my heart, Mary!
I am late to the tea party and do I’m sure the brownies are all gone. I’m usually on time but I forgot❣️ so I’m truly glad PJ took pictures of all the goings on with Charlotte Daisy and the scare crows. The pictures of PJ’s grands scooting close together with everyone is a favorite picture. I promise not to be late next time Charlotte Daisy❤️
Alice, Charlotte Daisy understands and is so happy to hear from you this morning. She sends you love and hugs❤️
Charlotte Daisy, thank you for letting us be at your wonderful tea party and be a part of it. I know PJ helped so much and all of the elements are perfect and what a great idea you had about paper napkins with such a pretty design. I know you must be happy to have so many new scarecrow friends and what a blessing to know that the grands will always have time for you when they come to visit PJ and Da! Charlotte Daisy you picked great choices from PJ‘s stash for your tea table. and I am sure PJ had fun helping you as she is such a great table stylist with plenty of choices. Hopefully, we will get to see you again closer to Thanksgiving if not, enjoy your time in the storeroom till next year.
Thank you so much Kari 🧡 All of my scarecrow friends are so happy that you stopped by. I am not sure if PJ will let us stay on the cottage porch until Thanksgiving. She likes to start her Christmas decorating early.
I love this post so much! I loved its whimsy and that Charlotte Daisy was permitted to tell things from her point of view! She is a wonderful writer – so descriptive! I felt like I was there at her tea party! I’m glad she is enjoying her autumn and her time to shine in the spotlight!
Thanks so much, Cheryl. Charlotte Daisy loves to talk almost as much as the grandkids. Have a wonderful rest of the week!
Oh my Charlotte Daisy – you did a marvelous job of hosting tea! Your choice of linens was spot on and how thoughtful to include paper napkins because, well, “scarecrows are messy”. (They do look like cloth to me.) The leaf plates are exquisite and the pumpkin teapot is a must. The treats look so delicious and I’m sure everyone enjoyed them and you all had a wonderful time. And how nice of Charlie to pick up some more friends to join the party. I’m glad that you were able to spend time with the grands and the group photo is fabulous. Thanks so much for having us along!
Charlotte Daisy throws a fabulous tea party. How fun with the scarecrows and your sweet grands. The treats look delicious. Love those s’more brownies. I made some for my latest girlfriend party. The dishes, the linens and adorable teapot really pop. Love the photo with your smiling grands. Thanks for sharing this lovely autumn tea party at Love Your Creativity.
Thank you, Linda! We ll had a “grand” time!
What a lovely scene, full of color and charm!! Your invitation was so SWEET, I followed in on LINDA’S fashionable coat-tails, and the party is perfection.
We, too, host a great number of Scarecrow and Snowpeople at our house—they also spend their off-seasons in the big Holiday Closets, but since we recently had to have our entire house re-wired, only the Scarecrows have been in sight for the season. The Snowpeople escaped all the plaster dust and chaos by taking residence in the huge old bathtub of the Guest Room bath, all safely ensconced behind the white showercurtain. But since we keep our TREE up all year, they will soon be emerging to fill their seasonal spots all over the house.
I’m joining in your happy group, and look forward to all your future adventures! racheld
Your SWEET welcome was so gracious, I couldn’t resist tagging along to your party on LINDA’S fashionable coat-tails. What a fabulous time you had, with everything so perfectly AUTUMN and lovely! The colors you selected are delicious on their own, and add just the right aura to such a fetching scene—what a menu, and how beautifully your collation is set out in the rich afternoon light.
We, too, have resident Scarecrow and Snowpeople who have been drifting into our lives for decades, and I don’t know what-all they get up to in the Holiday Closets. We recently had to have our entire house re-wired, and to keep them from all the plaster dust and chaos of the renovation, they took comfortable residence in the big bathtub in the guest room. They’re all (except for the scarecrows, who are at their usual FALL leisure around the house and porch) still happily ensconced behind the shower-curtain, and I’m sure they’re quite entertained by the people passing through.
Lovely party, and I’m joining your blog so as not to miss any of your lovely occasions!! rachel
