Welcome sweet friends. I hope everyone stayed safe and warm during the winter storm that has impacted much of the country. A very cold week is on tap for many of us!
“And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.”
Colossians 3:14 (ESV)
I am joining seventeen table stylists to bring you a Valentine’s Day Tablescape Blog Hop hosted by my friend, Rita from Panoply. You will find the links for all of the beautiful table settings at the bottom of this post.
Welcome to Sunshine Cottage where love is in the air. For many years we have celebrated Valentine’s Day at home. It is quiet, no reservations required, and we always have a table by the window!
I have always loved Valentine’s Day…cards, candy, flowers, and lovely remembrances of Valentine’s past! It is such a sweet treat tucked into the middle of winter. Valentine’s Day is not our only celebration in February, as we also celebrate our anniversary. On February 23, we will celebrate 53 years of marriage, how can that be possible?!!
Normally I set the table in shades of red and pink. I decided to change things up a bit by incorporating our favorite color, blue, along with the traditional pink and red. The tablecloth is April Cornell’s ‘Blue Roses’ and was a collaboration with Victoria Magazine! The gold-crowned red velvet heart always makes an appearance for Valentine’s!
You might wonder about the title of my post and what it means? “Forever Is Long Enough” is a song written by my romantic and sentimental Renaissance Man! Our son sang it to his bride at their wedding. I might be a little prejudice, but it is a beautiful love song penned by my favorite singer!
What would Valentine’s Day be without chocolates? Ghirardelli Crème Brûlée white chocolate with caramelized sugar flakes and Dove Hearts of silky smooth milk chocolate were perfect small bites of bliss!
Butch’s favorite cake/cupcake is red velvet. Our wonderful local bakery makes them fresh daily. I could not believe on this particular day there were no red velvet cupcakes. I had to substitute strawberry, but still delicious!
Valentine’s Day requires flowers. I had to improvise because traditional red roses were not available. I did find a few pink roses and mixed them with red spray roses and baby’s breath from my Tea on Tuesdays post using the same Fenton Hobnail Cranberry vase. In a few days there will be red and pink flowers in all the grocery stores.
Limoges bread and butter plates top the plate stack…
…chintz salad plates…
…Williams Sonoma ‘Famille Rose’ salad plate…
…and ‘Famille Rose’ dinner plate in blue!
I love the way God wrote our love story and how He continues to write it.
Many of you may remember that I have saved our Valentine’s cards for years. We enjoy rereading them each year on February 14th. A few years ago, we decided to write letters to each other rather than buy cards. Because our grands make us cards for every occasion, we have also begun to make cards for each other and for the grandchildren! I found the photo of us at my parents’ home after my sweet Daddy passed away. This photo was taken on our 25th wedding anniversary! Mother and Daddy hosted a small party for us with friends and family. I don’t remember ever seeing this picture. I was so happy to find it and of course it brought a few tears!
All of the treats are for the grandchildren! A Royal Albert ‘Lady Carlyle’ cup/saucer holds milk chocolates and a small heart box of assorted dark and milk chocolates will be enjoyed by EM, EK, and WL. Our youngest will turn one on February 13 and hasn’t been introduced to candy!
The antler napkin rings provided a much needed touch of masculinity!
“How long do I promise to love you?
How long do I promise to hold you?
When it comes to sharing life with you,
How long do I need?
Forever is long enough.
How long do I need you to love me?
How long do I need you to hold me?
As we joined our hearts as one,
Tell me, how long do we need?
Forever is long enough.
When a voice rings out with shouts and cries like thunder,
When the multitude exalts the Holy One,
When the Lamb of God invites His bride to come,
And the wedding of the ages has begun!
How long will we dwell with the Father?
How long will we rest in His presence?
And when it comes to spending time with Him
How much do we need?
Forever is long enough!

Good morning Pam, Such a beautiful and cozy setting to pair with Butch’s beautiful song lyrics! I had to chuckle at ‘we always have a table by the window’. 😊 Your Sunshine Cottage is the perfect spot to celebrate Valentine’s Day or your upcoming anniversary (what a milestone.) April Cornell’s ‘Blue Roses’ provides a lovely foundation for your pretty floral plate layers. I love the bit of opalescence your goblets add and shadow play on the table. Your Fenton hobnail Cranberry vase of pink roses and baby’s breath makes such a pretty centerpiece, along with your gold-crowned red velvet heart. I know the treats will be enjoyed by your grands. As always, it’s a treat to join you at the table. Hoping you and Butch are staying warm and cozy this week and he can do his PT at home without venturing out in the cold. Happy Tuesday! ❄️🩵
Oh Pam, what a beautiful table by the window….and reading the lyrics to Butch”s song brought tears to my eyes. I think several of us used song lyrics to celebrate this Valentine’s Day…it brings out the romance in us. 53 years! Wow! That is a milestone for sure….whom God has joined together….and I look forward to the red velvet heart with the gold crown to show up on your table each year and you did not disappoint. I also love the blues and pinks and have always admired the AC blue roses tablecloth and the way the shadows of sunlight dance across your table is so special. So glad you found the picture of your 25th at your precious mother and daddy’s…what a surprise for you both…and the pic looks great too! I find when I look at older pics of the Captain and me, my first question is “who are those people?”..🥰🥰 I loved your Fenton hobnail vase at your ‘blooms’ post and it is perfect filled with baby’s breath and pink roses for this table. Don’t you like how we can use the same vase in several ways and it always looks fresh? Love to you and Butch and early Happy upcoming Anniversary to two very special people. Stay warm and safe. Hugs and blessings my dear friend.
Pam, Forever is Long Enough! Yes, those words ring true. Beautiful post as always, but the sun kissed table is even more inviting after our cold, grey days here. I think we expect to warm into the 40s today, so sunshine should arrive here. Your goblets are gorgeous, and the hobnail vase brings memories of my sweet mother. I had pulled my WS Famille Rose plates to set my table for this year, and will share it later. Today, I’m honoring the gorgeous table my friend set in honor of our friendship. Stay safe, warm, and cozy. Cherish these days with Butch. I don’t have an abundance of Valentine Cards, as Monnie didn’t always give one. I do have the ones he did gift me, and they are cherished. I love seeing his handwriting and reading his heartfelt words. Happy Valentine’s Day!
No Harlequin Romance book has ever been written that is as sweet or pure as yours. Every post has love written all over it.Butch has a heart that’s truly for one person, you❣️
Forever is Never Enough made me cry because my love story ended after 34 years of marriage. I would love to hear Butch sing Never is Enough to you and how in the world could you sit through Seth’s marriage listening Butch sing that to him and his bride without crying? Just to know one day we will sit at the bridegrooms table is enough for me today. What a beautiful tribute to love today❤️
Alice, your comments are touching my heart this morning. I can only imagine how much you miss your dear husband. We are so thankful for almost 53 years of marriage! We praise the Lord for His grace and mercy. Stay warm my friend❤️
Pam, your table is a vision of loveliness from the charming floral plate stacks to the velvet hearts and delightful treats! I would happily pull up a chair to your inviting table! Hope you are staying warm and cozy, Cecilia – My Thrift Store Addiction
Hello Pam. Your table is so pretty. Terry and I have exchanged cards each valentines day too. Terry has written poems to me for Valentines Day and other special occasions. I keep them all in a book and read them on occasion. He has written beautiful poems through the years. Love the picture of you and Butch. Hugs. Kris
Kris thanks for sharing your traditions and how sweet the poems must be! I know it is sentimental to read those.
Your table — as always — is beautiful, Pam. And I especially love all the hearts and of course, your valentines. That is such a wonderful tradition. The blue cloth is especially pretty and a nice change-up!
Thanks so much Jeanie. I enjoyed changing up and adding some blue!
I should have written Forever is Long Enough.
I knew what you meant, dear one. Thank you for the years of encouragement you have given us in continuing this blog❤️
Pam, you two truly are the most romantic couple I know! Has Butch put his song up on YouTube? I would love to hear it! Your table is lovely with the sunlight playing across it. The mix of red and pink flowers is a favorite combination for me. You two lovebirds look exactly the same at 53 as you did at 25! We woke up to 11 degrees and the pond frozen over. Everything that melted yesterday froze back…I even had to cancel my hair appointment today (that is DefCon 10!). Praying Butch is feeling better with each passing day.
I think Butch will put the song on YouTube in the next few months. Canceling a hair appointment is serious. Gadsden was the coldest spot in Alabama this morning at 10 degrees. Wow your pond was frozen.
Thanks so much, my friend!
Pam, Oh My what a Sweet Inspiration you beautiful Marriage is! Wising you a Very Happy Anniversary. My husband and I will celebrate 35 years in April.
Your gorgeous plate and stemware sure sets a lovely table. And thank you for sharing that beautiful verse from Colossians!
Kathy
Kathy thank you for your sweet words and warm wishes! Happy 35th in April!
Blessings ~
Pam, you have set a beautiful table with your AC “Blue Roses” tablecloth, WS Famille Rose and plates. The Fenton hobnail cranberry base is so lovely with the pink roses. Love the sunlight dancing through the windows. Celebrating Valentines at home with a window seat is precious. The grands will love the special treats you have included. Such a lovely song Butch wrote for you. Cherished memories and a special congrats on for your upcoming 53 years of marriage. Always a special treat to join you on these fun filled blog hops.
What sweet lyrics and sentiment! Your layers of floral dishes is so pretty and all of your sugary treats certainly exude romance! Happy 53rd anniversary and Happy Valentines Day
Good morning, Pam. First of all, happy anniversary (although a bit early)! 53 years is quite an accomplishment. Second, I really love the romantic table that you have set here. I have long been a fan of April Cornell, the tablecloths in particular, and I absolutely love this one! You have paired the most beautiful plate stack with it as well as everything else. We used to have an April Cornell shop here. My mother and I always used to hit it when we would go shopping together. Those were lovely times, and I really miss them.
Pam, as usual, your little Sunshine Cottage is filled with beauty and love. I love everything about your table, from the April Cornell tablecloth to the shimmering glasses to each “more is more” plate stack ( you know how I love mix and matching patterns!) congratulations on your upcoming anniversary- what a blessing you and you renaissance man are to each other and everyone who knows you. I love seeing the two of you in the photo…what cuties!
Love you my Fri ed, I’ll see you Monday for our Monday Morning Blooms❤️ Lidy
Lidy you are a sweetheart. Thank you for your lovely visit and I look forward to our Monday Morning Blooms❤️
Oh Pam, thank you for sharing the words to Butch’ s beautiful song!! He truly is a Renaissance Man. I’ll bet Seth’s singing of the song brought everyone to tears of joy. Now, back to your table…your plate stack of all those beautiful patterns on your April Cornell tablecloth is so gorgeous. Good job with the masculine touch of the antler napkin rings. I’d be loving all the candy selections and the cupcake. Your hobnail vase is one of my favorites. Thank you for sharing all the beauty ❤️
Kitty, you are so sweet. Thank you for your sweet comments❤️
Congratulations on your upcoming 53rd anniversary! Your table for two is beautiful. Your plate stack is really pretty and your linens complete the look. I am in agreement that Valentine’s Day meals at home are the best! There are no lines, no outrageous checks and usually much tastier food than you can get at the restaurants. I’m adding some blue to my Valentine table thanks to your inspiration. Enjoy your day! Clara❤️
Thank you Clara. I am happy so happy you are adding some blue❤️
Pam, I absolutely LOVE your stunning table. The colors are all gorgeous. My favorite thing: the plate stacks! I love how you’ve mixed such disparate patterns that work so well together. I keep scrolling through and looking at them. Happy Valentine’s Day!
First of all, Congratulations on 53 years of married bliss! It’s wonderful when you find that special love and are able to enjoy all life’s stages together. Loved the plate stack with the blues and roses that go so well with the April Cornell tablecloth. It’s such fun to mix and match china patterns and you did a lovely job. The song is so special and so nice of you to share. Happy Valentine’s Day to you both.
Lynne, Thrifting Wonderland
Pam, I am so happy to see that you also included blue to your Valentine’s Day tablescape. You also included a tablecloth from April Cornell that is blue. It is so pretty and it is easy to see why you decided on this tablecloth from them. On occasion I also treat myself to a new tablecloth and this year I also chose April Cornell. I love the patterns. I can see how you love to complement your tablecloth with your beautiful plate stack. I am in love with the William Sonoma Famille Rose collection and have my hopes on the dinnerware set in any of the selection of pink, blue or green. They are all so exquisite and I can see how they work beautiful to expression love and romance. Your song is so lovely and so personal and such a keepsake along with all of the cards through the years. Such wonderful memories. I love how the sunlight adds to the magic of table. So very pretty. Enjoy the day and your anniversary.
Pam, I normally read and enjoy your post, then scroll on. But today I just had to tell you how much it resonated with me. The tablescape is gorgeous, but mostly your love of your family and God is so evident. Thanks again for sharing.
Jackie, thank you for commenting. We appreciate all of those who follow along!
Blessings,
Pam
Pam, how wonderful that you two have shared such romantic traditions over the years. Congratulations on your anniversary as well! I did not realize that your husband was a musician and songwriter. His lyrics are beautiful and perfect for this occasion. Thank you for sharing them with us. I am in awe of your plate stack!! I am in love with the Famile Rose collection, so it was wonderful to see you use them on your gorgeous table!! I hope you have a lovely Valentine’s Day and Anniversary!!❤️ ❤️
What a beautiful song Butch wrote! What a lovely song for you. Your love for each other and God shines through in this post.
Happy Anniversary very soon!💞
I loved your table by the window. Having the dappled sunlight on the table makes your plate stack even more exquisite.
I always enjoy your stories and memories.
Thank you so much for the inspiration!
Thank you Nancy for your sweet comments!
Pam, you have set a gorgeous table for your Valentine’s Day celebration. I love the addition of blue, and the AC tablecloth is so pretty, especially with the blue Famille Rose dinner plate on top. The plate stack is amazing and such a wonderful mix of patterns and colors. The flowers are so pretty with the pink roses, red spray roses, and baby’s breath. The chocolates and sweets are look delicious and I’m sure the grands will be thrilled. I love the sunlight dancing across the table in the Sunshine Cottage. Butch’s song is so sweet and sentimental – such a talented man! Happy upcoming 53rd wedding anniversary (wow) and happy Valentine’s Day!!
That’s a beautiful song! And a beautiful table to go with it, Pam. I love everything about it from the tablecloth to the roses, with that lovely plate stack in the middle. I’m so happy to share this Valentine’s Day hop with you! Take care down there, and thanks for the inspiration!
Pam, I love how you & Butch celebrate your Valentine’s Day, and now moving to writing letters. You do realize those will be the most treasured items in future years for Seth and his family, don’t you? I love how you came upon the framed photo of your 25th at your Daddy’s home to add to your treasures. The mix of the blue in this Valentine’s Day table makes my heart happy. I am all for the mixing of patterns and colorways not typical when creating a tablescape. You’ve done a beautiful job of making it romantic and inviting. The Limoges and chintz atop the Famille Rose are just gorgeous. The little punches of pinks and red are just right. Butch’s poem shows such a tender heart in him, and knowing Seth and Allyson shared it must’ve made both your hearts swell with both love and pride. Happy Valentine’s Day to you and yours. Thank you for joining this hop and sharing the Sunshine Cottage in this winter holiday in its finery.
Love that table cloth Pam, such a lovely romantic setting. I hope Butch will be well enough to get out to the Cottage to enjoy your beautiful setting.
Blessings, Jennifer
Thank you sweet friend! I think he will be able to manage a meal in the Sunshine Cottage ❤️
Oh wow, Happy Anniversary Pam and Butch! Fifty-three years is such a blessing and I know Sunshine Cottage will be celebrating all month long. I love your Beautiful settings and I love this stack, such gorgeous colors and patterns. Beautiful scriptures, wonderful inspiration. Wishing you both a very Happy Valentine’s Day……
Pam, this is a lovely study of floral abundance for a holiday that revels in flowers! Each plate is more charming than the last — all are perfect choices with the pretty tablecloth. I love velvet hearts and the crown is a cute touch. A sip of wine from the shimmering stems followed by delectable chocolate is a wonderful finish for a romantic meal. Happy Valentine’s Day — and Happy Anniversary!
Your table settings are as gorgeous as your love story – intimate corners and handwritten notes!💖💖💖
Thank you, Mary for your heartwarming comments 🩷
Gorgeous as always. I love the scriptures you used.
Thank you Rebecca! I am so happy you enjoyed!0
Oh Pam, I feel like I have been transported to an adorable English Cottage! Your table is pure bliss for me. The combination of colours and patterns are an absolute joy! What a wonderful song your sweet fellow penned. I can only imagine the joy it brought to hear your son sing it to his bride! Wishing you a very happy anniversary! Congratulations on 53 years 🙂
Oh Pam, I always love how heartfelt your posts are – you are just the loveliest soul!! 53 years together! WOW!!! Congratulations!! Your table is beautiful and I love your linens and dishes – you and I have the same taste 🙂 That velvet heart with the crown is absolutely enchanting!!! There’s something so special about a table that reflects real life and long-lived love rather than just a theme, and you captured that perfectly. Congratulations again — and I’m so happy to be hopping along with you!
A first-time drop-in reader who will be returning! What a lovely panoply of hospitality and love—the colors and the patterns, with such love in every special touch.
And seeing some of OUR Valentine cards in your collection!! We collected all ours for years, and this will be the fifth Valentine’s day since my Sweetheart whispered away from us, so the sweet remembrances are always a cheery comfort when I open that Treasure Box.
The crowning glory of this whole beautiful display was the song beneath each welcoming photo—a gifted mind and a loving heart composed that beautiful paean, and the words are definitely divinely inspired. I could even hear the tune in my head, with the emphasis of those four rhyming lines of Praise ringing out with the verve of a ” Then Sings my SOUL . . .” What a fabulous experience when I came expecting only marvelous teacups and Valentines!! What a gift you have, Butch, and what a lasting impression that beautiful composition must have made at the wedding. Is there a version online with sound? Simply lovely, and the brightest spot of my morning!
Joining your group so as not to miss anything further.
What a beautiful song by Butch! And what a beautiful post! I look forward to seeing your article in Victoria Magazine! May the Lord continue to bless you all.
Thanks so much, Cheryl. I don’t have an article in Victoria, but it would be wonderful if I did!
Blessings, Pam
