Happy Tuesday dear friends!
“The pastures of the wilderness overflow, the hills gird themselves with joy, the meadows clothe themselves with flocks, the valleys deck themselves with grain, they shout and sing together for joy.”
Psalm 65:12-13 (ESV)
It is hot and humid in our Appalachian Foothills. Pour yourself a glass of iced tea as I take you for a walk in our Summer’s Splendid Sunflowers. It is so hot, I think I’ll sip my tea and keep my comments brief!
My Renaissance Man (aka Butch) has been planting sunflowers for years. If I remember correctly it was the first flowers we ever planted from seeds. Sunflower seeds, unlike zinnias and others, are large enough that planting them isn’t so difficult.
I think the perfect description of this unusual sunflower growth would be twins! They appear to be a split from one, so I think we can call them identical twins and not fraternal!
Our sunflowers grew taller than ever before, making it difficult to take pictures and impossible to cut blooms without a ladder!
One of my favorite varieties is the ProCut Bicolor…
…Mahogany flowers with golden tips and a dark disk.
I can’t help but smile when I see a developing bloom!
We ordered a new variety from Johnny’s Seeds, ProCut Peach Lite. I love the softer shade and the honey bees agreed! RM said this was his favorite.
“Like a single sunbeam on a warm summer day, there is an exuberance and brilliance in a sunflower.”
~Unknown
Bees, birds, and butterflies are attracted to sunflowers. Birds love the seeds, especially the American Goldfinch as shown in Simple + Southern Sunday No. 608!
We had more unusual growth patterns this season!
I love the ease of using sunflowers in arrangements! A red watering can held A Sunflower Symphony!
Sunflowers and Patchwork had sweet memories attached!
As always, I appreciate your visits and gracious comments. Wishing you a delightful week!

Loved this and Sunday’s post and scriptures!
We are having iced tea sipping days here also! 103 degrees for us in the mountains is melting weather…sounds like you are melting too…more tea sipping! Appreciate you, God Bless…
I always enjoy your sunflowers! Your favorites are my favorites too! The bees, goldfinches, and butterflies love you because of your sunflower food.
Keep sipping your sweet tea and stay cool.
Happy Tuesday!
