“Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!”
Romans 11:33 (ESV)
Hello sweet friends. How is the month of August treating you? Like me, are you anticipating cooler days and glimpses of autumn?
Be sure to read to the end for the winner of my tea giveaway.
There is nothing quite as refreshing as a glass of iced tea on a hot 95 degree August afternoon!
It is the August edition of Tea on Tuesdays. Mary and I are excited to welcome back our special guest, Nancy from Two Trails, One Road. You will find Mary’s and Nancy’s links at the bottom of this post.
With temperatures in the 95-97 range and heat indexes in the triple digits, there was only one choice…iced tea! I received a lovely gift of two SUN TEA cans from the Tea Can Company. For today’s teatime I chose Mango Passion Black Tea. Tasting notes: Bold, Fruity, Uplifting. Perfect for summertime hydration, the SUN TEA series is delicious served hot or cold, by cup or by pitcher.
Of course I served it cold by the pitcher. The Mango Passion Black Tea is a fragrant and uplifting blend of ripe mango and marigold flowers. Ingredients: Black Tea, Mango Pieces and Marigold Flowers with Natural Mango and Passion Fruit Flavors.
It is delicious and refreshing with a sprig of mint! I also received Apricot Peach Green Tea which is just as delicious and refreshing as the Mango Passion. I would have served both, but the temperature was so oppressive I didn’t attempt it. The Apricot Peach Green Tea is a bold and lightly smoky gunpowder green tea with peach and apricot flavors! Visit their website to read their story and peruse more than 40 flavors of all natural and organic teas and herbal blends. The Tea Can Company also offers a Private Label Tea.
These fun and unique glasses were chosen for the Mango Passion tea. A dear friend, Elaine, often assisted me when I was in business. One day we were shopping in Birmingham for a client and happened into Pier 1. I enjoyed their brick and mortar stores because I could always find that perfect something that I did not need. I spotted these glasses and immediately thought I needed them. I hesitated for a minute, then said to Elaine, no, I don’t need them! We went on our way to shop for my client. The following week at church, Elaine handed me a box, and you guessed it, these glasses! I love setting a table with memories attached.
The vintage green depression glass pitcher is from our early days of marriage. Depression glass was inexpensive and I started a small collection that I still have. I think the color of the tea looks lovely in the green pitcher!
“A big glass of sweet iced tea will not solve the world’s problems, but it does make me forget they exist until the glass is empty!”
~ Butch Richardson
I often think how food evokes memories. Today’s savory and sweets both hold memories. My beloved Mother would make me egg salad sandwiches when I would take a lunch hour and visit her and Daddy. I would call and let her know I was coming and there would be fresh egg salad on toasted bread.
Butch and I returned last week from our favorite mountain getaway. I say favorite because this was our 7th visit to the Swag. It holds many wonderful and sweet memories for us. I brought home their delicious Swag Bars especially for teatime.
The powdered sugar donuts take me back to high school days. My Mother cooked a fabulous breakfast EVERY morning…homemade biscuits, gravy, scrambled eggs, grits, bacon or sausage! I rode to school with three friends and we would stop at a small store each morning and use our lunch money to buy the powdered sugar donuts and a Sprite. Can you believe I traded that home-cooked breakfast for donuts and a soft drink. My sweet Daddy enjoyed the powdered donuts after Mother passed away. I would pick them up and go by in the afternoon and make us a cup of coffee and we would enjoy listening to his music. The two tier tray was my Mother’s…so many sweet memories!
Zinnias and coleus were cut from our garden and placed in a small pitcher for an easy arrangement!
“A pleasant, beautiful, popular, and favorite season of many is approaching, but I am determined to help delay it as long as possible. I am misunderstood and even disdained, as most do not realize that I am simply giving some things time to grow, mature, and ripen, preparing for the anticipated harvest from which you all benefit. I am August.”
~ Butch Richardson
“Zinnia Bouquet” is an older April Cornell tablecloth that I love to use when our zinnias are blooming! In case you missed Zinnias: A Perfect Summer Flower, you can see it here.
The glasses filter the sunlight in such a way that brings a sense of refreshment to the table, even on a hot, sultry August afternoon!

You make August look so much more inviting than it has been so far, Pam! The nostalgia delivered with your food and tabletop descriptions read like a great summer afternoon novel I want to sink into! That apricot peach tea is truly calling my name! I have been eating egg salad in recent days, made for me by my son-in-law. Mr. P, on the other hand, is the man who has a daily donut hole fix (sour cream for the sugar win!). A great alfresco teatime for August!
