Hello September and welcome friends! Today is the first day of meteorological autumn! I choose to start celebrating now rather than wait three weeks for the autumnal equinox!

September is the gateway to my “favorite” season! I know that all of my readers know that by now… but, I seem compelled to announce it quite often. Our summers can be extremely long in the South and this one has definitely been long and hot with this week bringing highs in the mid to upper 90’s.

September rarely brings any autumn weather! But I can finally allow myself to dream of pumpkin stacks, s’mores around the fire pit, leaves changing colors, and cozy sweaters!
‘Dahlia Days’ tablecloth, pumpkin-colored straw placemats and napkins, plus amber-colored stemware bring fall to the table!
Adagio Maiden Grass provides texture and an interesting backdrop for the setting!
A trip to Deep Roots Flower Farm provided the gorgeous dahlias and a few zinnias with the addition of panicled hydrangeas from our garden. We have had several windstorms that wreaked havoc on our zinnias and giant marigolds, but received very little rain. Oh the life of a gardener!
Hopefully, it won’t be too long before I can decorate the Sunshine Cottage porch with pumpkins and our grandchildren’s favorite scarecrows! I can’t wait, I enjoy it as much, or maybe more than they do!!
American Atelier ‘Baroque’ chargers match the pitcher holding the flowers! My favorite of autumn dishes are Spode’s ‘Woodland’ pattern that is elegantly framed by the archival British Flowers Border. I am most certain the ‘Woodland’ birds will appear soon on a tablescape. The brown border frames the sweet sparrow bird plates that came from Hobby Lobby a couple of years ago.

Copper flatware is perfect for a fall setting. The napkin rings add a little jewelry to the table. They represent so many wonderful memories, collected over 51 years of friendship with a precious friend who gave them to me!
Hydrangeas turned brown early this year with the intense heat and little rain.
Dahlias have become a favorite flower right behind peonies and hydrangeas.
The amber-colored stemware was from a local department store that had a fabulous home department. When I think of all the stores and shops that have closed, it makes me sad! Buying online is convenient, but I miss the personal touch of in-store shopping. We still have a lovely downtown with small local shops that know my name and are happy to see me walk through the door!
Some of our potted plants have survived well (red vinca in the background) and still thriving while others have not!
You might have noticed the dark background in some of the photos. All of a sudden the sky clouded over and it looked like it could rain at any moment. I hurried up and finished photographing just in time ahead of some much needed rain!
The Japanese maples are giving small hints of autumn color!

Beautiful Pam! Just like you, September has me anticipating all that autumn will bring! Your garden setting never disappoints no matter the season! I love the rich colours of your table, and the napkin rings really caught my eye. They are so difficult to find where I live. I couldn’t agree more about missing the wonderful department stores with houseware’s sections I could get lost in! I love the woodland plates, especially layered with the British Flower Border. Your Dahlia centrepiece is gorgeous and truly brings all the colours of your table together! Hoping you get a reprieve from the heat soon!
Good morning Pam! I love those sweet little sparrow plates! Your beautiful table setting gives me hope for cooler days (it was 102 on my deck at 5 pm yesterday!). I just read the “-ber” months have arrived and are the best months…September, October, November, and December! Yes!! The days are definitely shorter and the angle of the afternoon sun coming through the windows is different too. Keep cool and think Fall, my friend.

This Pennsylvania girl is definitely looking forward to the Fall weather which we will be getting a taste of this coming weekend. 70 degree temperatures in the day and mid fifties at night. I am sure Charlotte Daisy is excited for her 2026 porch debut!

Oh those colors! I love your tablecloth, and the flowers are so perfect with it. The darker pops of color are so exciting with your sweet bird plates. Love that copper flatware too – I’ve never seen that patter before – it is perfect. I miss shopping in person too. I’m glad you still have that personal connection in your town. Your garden is always so gorgeous. Once again, I feel like I’ve had a little vacation visiting your beautiful home!

What a lovely tribute Pam, to your favorite time of year. I believe you and I share Autumnal birthday months coming very soon which only adds to our love of the Fall. 💕 The backdrop of maiden grass is so perfect for your outdoor table…and I, too have been ‘victim’ to removing an al fresco table quickly due to impending rain. Here in Florida, we have also had some winds along with our usual daily rains, so I have had to not only rescue a table but other outdoor pillows and such, which as you know is not a fun task. But we welcome the rain, even tho the ‘after’ feels like we are in a sauna. Butch’s quote is a perfect description of this time of year.
I especially love your Dahlias in the white vase matching your American Atelier ‘Baroque’ chargers…. and the copper flatware memories of a dear friend is something I look for in each of your tables. It is sad that so many of our favorite stores (and restaurants) have gone out of business.🥲…but it makes the treasures we have from them so very special. Blessings and much love always

Pam, autumn is also my favorite season as well. We have had very hot temps in August in triple digits, but while I was in CO, we received rains. Temps are now back into the 90s, but still very hot and humid. Your orange placemats delight my senses with both color and texture. The pitcher filled with dahlias and a zinnias also delight my senses. The dahlias in CO were fabulous. I need to remember to add dahlias to my summer containers. The amber stems are a pretty touch with the plate stack of Spode brown transfer ware and the precious birdie salads. I have pieces of Spode Woodland and enjoy bring them to the table in autumn. I’m ready to transition our home to an autumn feel. Thanks for the inspiration!
Beautiful and even makes me feel cooler, all those lovely Fall colors. I love Fall also and all the different colors it brings plus cooler weather, I am so tired of 102 103 temps.
