Coffee Table Talk: Children At Play

Well, hello February…you sure snuck in on us! So far, we have had very little winter in our Appalachian Foothills.  We had a few days here and there, but I wouldn’t say it has been a normal winter for us!

By now you know I don’t move things around in my home very often….but it hasn’t always been that way!  As a matter of fact, when we first married Butch never knew where his chair might be!  It was almost like a game…and after many years of that, let’s just say I got tired so I stopped!  These days I rarely move furniture, but I do enjoy moving a few accessories just to enjoy them in a more prominent place!  One of the things I like to change up a bit is my coffee table…adding a little something here, some fresh flowers there!  So today, I’m sharing our simple winter coffee table with you!  You’ll notice a bronze sculpture that I have had at least fifteen years as the focal point…it remains one of my favorite pieces! I will enjoy it for a few weeks and then return it to its home.  It is extremely heavy, so moving it is a chore!  It’s a fun piece and I just love the children at play!


 
The bronze sculpture features five children holding hands, notice the middle child is much smaller and they have her suspended in the air.  Do you remember the carefree days of childhood?  So many children no longer play outdoors…they are glued to video games and electronic devices!  I remember playing hide-and-seek, mother may I, hopscotch, red rover…who needed toys?!

Bring On The Blue and White!

When January rolls around each year, most of us make a list of things we want to accomplish…whether they be personal goals or a “honey do” list for around the house! We are well into January 2017 and although I didn’t set many personal goals,  I sure am thinking about all the projects that I had hoped to complete last year!  Most of them never even got started….but there is a good reason for that, and her name is Ella Mae.  Becoming a grandmother was and is at the top of the priority list!  My major project that I shared last year was to redesign and repurpose my two guest bedrooms.  Well let’s say that was a big project and it took a backseat to decorating her nursery and ooh-ing and ahh-ing over her!  

We also love to travel and we decided many years ago to not put off seeing the world until later, but do it now. 

Needless to say, Ella Mae and travel won out over the guest bedroom project.

This year, I am being a little more realistic with what I hope to accomplish and I am so hoping to complete at least one of the guest rooms this year.  First things first:  the color palette.  Since I have always loved blue and white, and it is truly classic…that is my plan.  I also love toile…so you guessed it…a blue and white toile bedroom it is!  I have designed countless bedrooms using toile, but it has never made it’s way into my home…until now!  In my younger years, I wanted to decorate according to what was the trend at the time, but now I always stay true to my personal style and what is pleasing to my eye! So bring on the blue and white!!

The blue and white fabric is pretty, but I will not be using wallpaper…the antique table between the beds warms up the space.

A Valentine Brunch For The Ladies

By now, I’m sure you’ve all seen stores flooded with reds, pinks, and Hershey’s kisses…and that can only mean one thing…Valentine’s Day will be here before we know it!  The holiday that centers around love is one of my favorites, because well…I love to celebrate love! I am sure most of us automatically think of our husbands or significant other, but Valentine’s Day surely doesn’t have to be limited to that one relationship…because love should be at the core of all of them!  I have always loved brunching with the ladies….a Saturday morning complete with good food, fun conversation, and lots of laughter…and what better time to show your girlfriends love than the upcoming holiday?!  Today, let’s take a look at some ideas for a Valentine brunch for the ladies!
