Tablescape Tuesday: XOXO

February 10, 2015~ Decorating, Tablescape Tuesday

“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three;
but the greatest of these is love”

1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭13‬

It’s Tuesday and you know what that means here at Everyday Living…tablescape!!  From the blog’s beginning, I have posted a dining tablescape, but today I digress.  You can see my Valentine’s settings here: Love is in the Air! and here: Sweet & Simple.

In an early celebration of Valentine’s, Butch and I went to dinner this past Friday at our favorite restaurant in Birmingham, Bottega.  It was a perfect meal and we enjoyed getting away for a few hours!  AND to top off an excellent night out, our culinary hero, Mr. Frank Stitt himself actually came to our table!   No trip to Birmingham is complete without a stop at Whole Foods for items that we can’t find in our smaller city.  While shopping, Butch spotted a great buy on roses…red, white, pink, and yellow-two dozen for $22.99!  Now he likes a good deal and I love flowers, so we left the store with two dozen red roses!  Win!  On Saturday morning, I thought I would arrange and display them in our foyer rather than our dining room.  I gathered accessories from different rooms that gave a romantic feel to the space-just in time for Valentine’s Day!  I love having a different look to enjoy!!

With the exception of the lamps, the vignette on the foyer chest is completely changed. I love the ornate detail of the gold mirror and it makes the small space more spacious!

The roses are the star feature!

I added a rattan tray for texture.  This helps to pull together dissimilar accessories!

I always add books…I have so many! They make a great foundation and they can add height to objects.   The colors of the accessories add a romantic touch!

This sweet covered Fitz and Floyd bowl was a gift.  The detail is beautiful!

I have a small collection of miniature jeweled boxes.  This one adds a little glitz to the vignette!

A majolica plate adds more color.  Majolica is a collectible that has soared in price since I found this one in the back of a musty antique shop thirty years ago.  Should have bought more!!

A scented votive in the turquoise glass (Anthropologie) adds warmth and a heavenly smell!

Red roses always speak romance!

The hand painted Maitland-Smith chest lends itself to a romantic feel!!

The book cover was the inspiration for the tablescape!  Its title is “Vintage Vavoom-Romantic Decorating with one-of-a-kind Finds!”

The textured sunny walls are a great background!

The lamps add elegance to our small foyer.  You can see the antique grandfather clock reflected in the mirror!

Butch and I will celebrate Valentine’s at home, as we always do.  My planned menu is:

Bedroom Tour: Let The Sunshine In!

February 9, 2015~ Decorating

“From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!”
Psalm‬ ‭113‬:‭3‬

Have you ever been a guest in someone’s home, but instantly felt welcomed and like you were family?  When Pam and I went to Raleigh a few weeks ago, I had only met Patti once before, but this proved to be the case.  We were greeted with hugs and a delicious meal and their hospitality remained consistent the entire weekend!  We even left with gifts!  She sent us home with the most wonderful coffee and her husband Mike gave us the coziest winter hats!  Such hospitality!  Our purpose in going to Raleigh was, of course, for some fun girl time, but also to photograph some of the beautiful home that you know as Patti’s. Patti, along with Pam’s expertise, has been decorating her home since 1988, and it has been an on-going project ever since.  They (not me–I have no decorating ability what-so-ever!) had a tablescaping marathon that weekend and let me tell you: these two are hilarious together.  I guess that is what happens when you are friends with someone for over forty years-alot of history and good times!  What a beautiful friendship they have!  Today, you will get even more of a glimpse into Patti’s home, and hopefully into her beautiful heart of hospitality!  This is the bedroom that I stayed in that weekend, and it was so cheery with the sunshine coming in the triple windows behind the bed!  I know you will enjoy it as much as I did!
-Katy

Decorating Patti’s house has been a fun process over the years!  This room, along with the one you saw here: A Breath of Fresh Air! were both decorated in 2000, and the one you saw here: Everyday Living at Patti’s  a few years later.  And now without further delay, I (Pam) will show you more of the beautiful Fralix home!

Lemon walls, floral fabric, and pops of red & blue make for a fabulous guest room!  Actually, Patti and Mike have numerous guests that enjoy the welcoming accommodations, delicious food, and warm hospitality!

I love that Patti never shies away from color!  She chose the fabric and I designed the window treatments and bedding.  Both mahogany, the poster bed was Tara’s (Patti’s oldest daughter) and the antique rocker has been passed down through Mike’s family.  It and the antique footstool are both upholstered in a blue tone on tone stripe fabric.

The floral fabric has Patti’s favorite color (have you guessed?!)…blue!  A guest bedroom is perfect for more pillows on the bed!

Decorative hand-painted chest with chinoiserie lamps that I moved from her dining room while visiting a few weeks ago!

Close-up of a lovely quilt Patti found for this room!

Antique floral lamp base of unknown provenance!  The bow vase with yellow roses is vintage.

I made this cross-stitch pillow in 1981 as a gift for Patti. If you will remember from previous posts, she displays hand-crafted gifts throughout her home.

The pair of antique Victorian bedside tables are from Patti’s mother.

The guest room has a nice wooded view from its second story location

An intricate needlepoint piece purchased recently.  Look at all the detail!

The triple windows welcome the morning sunshine into this happy space!

The drop-down oak desk and bookcase was inherited from Patti’s grandparents.  Over the desk hangs a hand painted plate from a ceramicist artist from Quebec and  it was a gift from a Canadian friend!  Patti may have as many books as I do!

A lovely Wedgwood piece sits on the desk-I considered putting it in my suit case!

While visiting a few weeks ago, I decided to layer the quilt on top of the bedding for a change.  As you can see, it works really well!

The cherry color upholstered love seat is an antique and Patti thinks she bought it from me and I just don’t remember. After all, we are talking about a 40 plus year friendship!!

Hanging over the love seat is a beautiful cross-stitch sampler made by Patti’s Mother-what a priceless piece!

The watercolor painting of a hibiscus flower is by a Hawaiian artist!

“Let brotherly love continue.  Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers,
for thereby some have entertained angels unawares”

Hebrews 13:2

A Chic Carolina Condo

February 2, 2015~ Decorating

“Peace be to you. The friends greet you. Greet the friends, each by name”
‭3 John‬ ‭1‬:‭15‬

If you have read our blog for any length of time, you have met my friend, Patti.  You’ve seen several posts with her name and beautiful home attached.  A few weeks ago, Katy and I spent a long weekend in North Carolina, and you’ve already seen one post from that trip: A Breath of Fresh Air.  There will be many more posts from this trip to come-so stay tuned!  Patti is a more-than-gracious hostess, and on this trip she once again shared her long-time friend, Maureen!  I first met Maureen over thirty years ago, and as always, it was a delight to spend some time with her.  Maureen, affectionately named Momo, welcomed me into her home which I found to be oh-so-chic!  She bought the condo while it was under construction and was able to select most of its interior finishes.  Patti has assisted her with decorating and adding quality antiques.  As you will see, Maureen maintains a minimalist approach.  She has a quote to describe hers and Patti’s friendship “Keep it simple and find a friend who doesn’t!”

In the entry sits an antique mahogany table with a unique fish sculpture.  Maureen had admired this work of art that belonged to her next door neighbor.  When that neighbor moved to a retirement home, she gave the fish sculpture to Maureen and it now holds a place of honor in her foyer.  Over the table is a colorful print of downtown Toronto, near Maureen’s hometown!

The living room, with its antique oriental rug, is a warm and inviting space for watching TV, reading, and conversation.  The natural light that streams in from the windows makes it so!

The pair of wicker chairs are antique and I am currently coveting them!  They are in pristine condition and I have a great spot at my house for them!

The bookcase is a vintage mahogany find, and is neatly arranged with photos, keepsakes, and books!

Maureen’s family photos are displayed in Pottery Barn frames.

The dining table is a reproduction and is representative of Maureen’s style…clean and simple lines.  Bentwood chairs are  antique along with the chest that is early 1800’s!  The rug is seagrass and was a great bargain from Tuesday Morning!

Tulips add a perfect pop of color!

The sideboard was a housewarming present from Maureen’s sister and brother-in-law. The beautiful oil painting of a European cafe scene was a gift from Patti and Mike.  Some treasures on the sideboard include a Waterford bowl, a Royal Doulton figurine named Maureen, a graduate, and a nurse (gifts when she graduated nursing school and as a nurse practitioner).

The view out the bay window makes you feel like you’re in a tree house!  Such a fun area!

Just a peek into the kitchen with its granite counter tops!

Guest bedroom is cozy with Ralph Lauren bedding and leather headboard.  The sailboat on the bedside table was a gift.  I love Maureen’s simplicity!

A beautiful painting of Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia hangs in the guest room.

This detailed cross-stitch needlework immediately caught my eye.  Maureen’s friend, Gisele made this in 1989.  I love hand-crafted gifts, as they make a home warm and personal!

This small den serves as a guest room when needed.  It has a “sporty” feel with its collection of golf balls hanging on the wall and the 10-speed Diamondback bicycle that also serves as a stationary bike!

This was, personally, one of my favorite areas.  A large and sunny porch with furniture from Ace Hardware that Maureen painted a nice shade of green.  It felt like vacation when I stepped outside!

We have always been blessed by Maureen’s gracious and loving spirit. We thank her for allowing us to share her beautiful home with you, our readers!

Happy December…it truly is the happiest time of th Happy December…it truly is the happiest time of the year! I am sharing this merry table that was inspired by @april.cornell Victorian Christmas tablecloth! As an April Cornell brand ambassador I received the beautiful tablecloth and lovely Essential blue napkins. The red and white checkered top lends itself to classic casual elegance. The lovely snowy village on the border of the cloth came to life with a couple of snowy wood slice chargers that are topped with tiny little village shops that my beloved Mother gave me many years ago. They hold a special place in my heart. The salad plates depict Christmas Village scenes and complement the cloth. An easy centerpiece of fresh fruit is nestled atop fresh greens and placed in a Natale bowl by @arteitalicacrownlinen I have joined 17 table stylists for a Christmas Tablescape Blog Hop. Happy Tuesday! I am a day late sharing Monday Morn Happy Tuesday! I am a day late sharing Monday Morning Blooms. The theme for the July edition is Summer Living! Living in the country, our summer days are filled with outdoor chores, one of which is gardening! My ‘Little Lamb’ panicled hydrangeas are in full bloom and are the star of my simple table setting! The basket holding the hydrangeas is very sentimental. It belonged to my beloved Mother who kept her journals and devotional books in the basket. I often picked up the books and journals to read while visiting my sweet Daddy. Since my Daddy passed away in March, my brother and I are cleaning out our parents home. I just knew the basket was coming home with me! My precious Mother would have loved seeing it filled with flowers! A vintage tablecloth, @april.cornell ‘Eden’ napkins, Portmeirion ‘Botanic Garden’ dinner plates and stemware from Tuesday Morning (many years ago) complete the table!

Happy July! 2025 is half over, and where did it go Happy July! 2025 is half over, and where did it go? I am celebrating the red, white, and blue with a table set in the garden with a couple of treats and sweet iced tea for this hot summer day. Precious memories are attached to the checked tablecloth. My beloved Mother prepared Sunday lunch every week until she passed away. Each Sunday was a feast comparable to Thanksgiving. During the summer months, she often used this checked cloth. More delicious meals than I could count have been served on this cloth!

Happy Wednesday! My favorite place to set a summer Happy Wednesday! My favorite place to set a summer table is in my garden. I decided the table should be simple to allow the hydrangeas to be the star! I always love sharing a ‘special something’ on a table setting that is sentimental and has wonderful memories attached like the majolica pitcher that belonged to my beloved Mother. A beautiful blue and white tablecloth by @april.cornell for @victoriamagazine was a surprise from my sweet husband and also included the ‘blue roses’ tea set which was a part of the limited edition when it was first introduced a few years ago. The Sur La Table floral-patterned earthenware was inspired by London’s Chelsea Flower Show in collaboration with artist, April Cornell. Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our woodlands and this is the first one of the season, an Easter/Spring table! I love all the sweet bunny decorations, but Easter is so much more. We celebrate Easter because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. His bodily resurrection enables all those who choose to follow Him to have assured victory over our greatest enemy…death!

I look forward each year when some of my favorite blooms display their amazing beauty in our garden. Snowball viburnum in its full glory with large creamy white blooms. Climbing Lady Banks Rose is covered in hundreds of miniature yellow blooms cascading to the ground. An old-fashioned Bridal Wreath Spirea with its branches arching to the ground in a fountain-like growth habit is loaded with showy double white flowers in clusters of three to six that resemble a bride’s wreath. I still claim the Kwanzan Cherry tree even though it is now on our son’s property. Its ruffled pink double pink blossoms are some of my favorite blooms. All four of these blooms make up an arrangement with a few tulips from the grocery store.

I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on m I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on my blog. My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!
