Hello sweet friends…and I sure hope you all brought your appetite with you today! Hummingbird Cake is my very favorite and my precious Mama always made it for my birthday and often for our family’s Sunday lunches! I will tell you just how much I have missed it…I made it for myself for Mother’s Day this year! SO you can imagine my excitement when I saw this recipe on Phyllis Hoffman DePiano’s beautiful blog A Ribbon In My Journal! Phyllis is the CEO of Hoffman Media that publishes some of my favorite magazines such as Southern Lady, Victoria, Southern Home, The Cottage Journal…ok you get the picture, I am a big fan of hers! When I saw this recipe in December I just knew that I had to make these cookies, but I have just now gotten around to it! Oh my, why did I wait? These are perfect with just about anything…a cup of chamomile, espresso, or a tall glass of very cold milk! Here’s to my now all-time favorite cookie!

Tablescape Tuesday: Better Late Than Never!

Happy Wednesday to all of you sweet friends!  I hope you all had a fun and safe July 4th….with all of the grilling and homemade ice cream that comes along with the celebration of our nation’s Independence Day!  You may think I’ve lost track of my days, posting Tablescape Tuesday on a Wednesday, but let me explain. Every afternoon over the past several days we have been getting terrible thunderstorms with winds in excess of 40 mph and torrential rainfall with lots of lightning…and it seems to come out of nowhere, very unexpected!  And guess what…you won’t find this girl outside doing a tablescape with the rain coming in sideways!  On Monday, it looked very promising and I thought that I could surely make it outside for an alfresco tablescape…and I even had everything ready!  But as soon as I got everything together, the dark clouds started rolling in and the wind started to pick up.  So I marched back inside and waited for it to pass.  When it was over, I decided not to be defeated.  I wiped off the table and chairs and set my garden table to bring you this week’s Tablescape Tuesday…or I guess we should say Tablescape Wednesday…better late than never!

But First, Coffee!

Latte, cappuccino, espresso, dark bold roast…no matter how it’s served, I love coffee!  I start my mornings at my coffee station, and if I’m honest, I would rather not have conversation before I’ve had my first cup!  I have enjoyed coffee for years, but when I first started, I put so much cream and sugar in mine that it drowned out the flavor!  These days, I am a three cup kind of girl…and I like it black!  I like coffee so much that this is my second post on it…you can see the first one here!  Today, let’s take a look at some pics of my favorite drink and then we can tackle the day…but first coffee!
 For the last three mornings, our temps have been in the upper 50’s with lower humidities, perfect weather for an espresso in the garden.

A summer afternoon pick-me-up is an iced latte and a square of dark chocolate.
