New Friends & Old Hymns

March 19, 2015~ Faith, Guest Posts

I am so excited to introduce Stephanie from The Enchanting Rose as our guest on the blog today!  She is a new friend that I met in the blogging world, but we have so many things in common that I was instantly drawn to her.  Many of the things you will see on her blog are fun crafts, tasty recipes, and her love for tea cups!  Above all, her genuine love for Christ shines through her beautiful blog.  One of the aspects of her blog that I love is the way she shares old hymns with her beautiful photography…and today she shares that with us!   I know you will enjoy her lovely post!
A cheery and blessed day to you, lovely readers of Everyday Living!
I am Stephanie and I am the writer, creator, and baker over at
The Enchanting Rose.
It is my joy and pleasure to be with you and I would like to express my gratitude to Pam
for allowing me to share my love for old hymns on her beautiful site.
When Pam contacted me about writing a guest post for her readers
I was quite honored and delighted!
Pam is a lovely, gracious woman and her posts reflect not only
her creativity and wisdom, but also her deep love for our precious Savior.
With Easter upon us, Pam and I thought an Easter hymn would be perfect for today.
Old hymns are a love of mine and I share them every Sunday on my blog.
There is so much wisdom, history,
and depth in the words penned so many years ago.
I hope you enjoy today’s post of praise, worship, and rejoicing. . .

Jesus is not the “Great I WAS”
but rather the “Great I AM!”

Jesus Christ is not only a historical fact but a present-day, living reality.

All of Christianity rests upon the truth that Jesus rose from the grave victorious
 and is now seated at the Father’s right hand as our personal Advocate.
“Fear not; I am the first and the last:
I am he that liveth, and was dead;
and behold, I am alive forevermore,
Amen.”
Revelation 1:17b, 18 {KJV}

Christ Arose

Written by
Robert Lowry, 1826 – 1899

Low in the grave He lay – Jesus, my Savior!
Waiting the coming day – Jesus, my Lord!

Vainly they watch His bed – Jesus, my Savior!
Vainly they seal the dead – Jesus, my Lord!

Death cannot keep his prey – Jesus, my Savior!
He tore the bars away – Jesus, my Lord!

Chorus
Up from the grace e arose,
with a mighty triumph o’er His foes;
He arose a Victor from the dark domain,
and He lives forever with His saints to reign,
He arose! He arose!
Hallelujah!
Christ arose!

“He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.

Come, see the place where the Lord lay.”
Matthew 28:6

“Now if we be dead with Christ,
we believe that we shall also live with him:
Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more;
death hath no more dominion over him.”
Romans 6: 8 – 9
Look, Ye Saints! the Sight is Glorious
Written by
Thomas Kelly, 1769 – 1854
Look, ye saints! the sight is glorious:
See the Man of Sorrows now;
From the fight returned victorious,
Every knee to Him shall bow:
Crown Him! crown Him!
Crowns become the Victor’s brow.

Crown the Savior! angels crown Him!
Rich the trophies Jesus brings;
In the seat of power enthrone Him,
While the vault of heaven rings:
Crown Him! crown Him!
Crown the Savior King of kings.

Sinners in derision crowned Him,
Mocking thus the Savior’s claim;
Saints and angels crowd around Him,
Own His title, praise His name:
Crown Him! crown Him!
Spread abroad the Victor’s fame!

Hark! those bursts of acclamation!
Hark! those loud triumphant chords!
Jesus takes the highest station-
O what joy the sight affords!
Crown Him! crown Him!
King of kings and Lord of lords!

My dear friends,

allow the precious truth of Jesus Christ’s resurrection to thrill your life anew.
Sing with great triumph, “Christ arose!”
We serve a living Savior-
He is the King of kings and Lord of lords!

God sent His Son – they called Him Jesus:
He came to love, heal, and forgive;

He lived and died to buy my pardon,

an empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives.

Because He lives I can face tomorrow;

because He lives all fear is gone;

because I know He holds the future,

and life is worth the living just because He lives.

– Bill Gaither –

Now let the heavens be joyful, let the earth her song begin,
let the round world keep triumph and  all that is therein;
let all things seen and unseen their notes in gladness blend,
for Christ the Lord hath risen, our joy that hath no end!
– From the early eighth century by John of Damascus –
Celebrate and rejoice this Easter season!
Allow your soul to vibrate with joy and “Alleluias”
for all that the risen Savior means to you!

A big heartfelt thanks to Pam

for allowing me to share my love and passion for hymns of worship.
And many thanks to you, dear readers, for joining me today-
I hope your heart was blessed and refreshed.
We have much to praise the Lord for!
Please feel free to come by The Enchanting Rose for a visit.
I always love making new friends 🙂
Love, hugs, and blessings,
Stephanie

Hidden Treasures

December 17, 2014~ Guest Posts

We welcome our son, Seth to the blog today to share his favorite Christmas memory.  Seth is an awesome musician and singer and he is the worship leader at our church!  He and the beautiful Allison have been married a little over two years.  Needless to say, we are excited about the plans that God has for them!  If you remember last week in Miracles and Mangers, Butch’s favorite memory focused on the birth of Seth, which took him to an even greater birth-the birth of Christ.  Today, as Seth shares, notice how the memory is about his earthly parents, but points us  to something even greater-our Heavenly Father.

It is amazing how God uses earthly relationships to show us himself.

rich

It’s 7:00 am, December 25, 1992.  My parents, who have barely had time to close their eyes, are awakened suddenly by a little voice.  “Wake up, it’s Christmas!”  I exclaimed, as though they were unaware.  They required that I wake them up before I went to see what “Santa” brought.  As we made our way into the living room, there it was!  Just as I had imagined- an electric train!  It was set up on a sheet of plywood in the living room.  I sat in the floor, and after a quick lesson, I was moving a big load of freight.  I watched with “eyes all aglow” as it went around and around. A little faster as I gained confidence.  My mom, who always kept things tidy, allowed the train to stay just like I found it for several months.  Finally, as Spring rolled around, it was time for the train to move to the garage.  My dad set it up on hinges with folding legs.  Anytime I wanted to be an Engineer, he’d back the car out and let it down for me.  I spent many an hour throwing the switch to change tracks and add or drop cars.  It was a major operation in my mind.

 It’s December, 2014, now.  The train has long been put away in boxes, but I can still remember that morning like it was yesterday.  My parents always made everything special.  It’s no surprise then, that I have many fond memories of “Christmases long, long ago,” but the Christmas I got that train stands out.  At the time I didn’t fully appreciate the hours, love, money, and care that were put in to it.  All I saw was the gift. I didn’t know that my dad got off work at 3:00am then he, along with my mom, had to bring it in and set it all up.  I had no idea that my dad had worked hours on it many nights while I was asleep in bed.  I still don’t know how he kept me from seeing it.  I followed him everywhere.

 The “behind the scenes” of that Christmas is a vivid picture of how God is working in our lives for His glory.  Intercession is being made for us with “groanings too deep for words” when we don’t know what to pray.  I bet much of it is while we are tucked in our beds, fast asleep.  God is at work every day and much of the time all we notice is the finished product.

FullSizeRender (12)

The train claimed about half of our family room. And railroads are quite noisy-even model railroads! But this train had priority.

Dressing up in Christmas attire must have impressed the big man but I am sure this outfit was not my idea!

“And when they had performed everything according to the Law of the Lord,
they returned into Galilee, to their own town of Nazareth.
And the child grew and became strong, filled with wisdom.
And the favor of God was upon him”
Luke‬ ‭2‬:‭39-40‬

Happy December…it truly is the happiest time of th Happy December…it truly is the happiest time of the year! I am sharing this merry table that was inspired by @april.cornell Victorian Christmas tablecloth! As an April Cornell brand ambassador I received the beautiful tablecloth and lovely Essential blue napkins. The red and white checkered top lends itself to classic casual elegance. The lovely snowy village on the border of the cloth came to life with a couple of snowy wood slice chargers that are topped with tiny little village shops that my beloved Mother gave me many years ago. They hold a special place in my heart. The salad plates depict Christmas Village scenes and complement the cloth. An easy centerpiece of fresh fruit is nestled atop fresh greens and placed in a Natale bowl by @arteitalicacrownlinen I have joined 17 table stylists for a Christmas Tablescape Blog Hop. Happy September and meteorological fall! “Breaking Happy September and meteorological fall! “Breaking free from the grips of a lingering summer, and gaining freedom to embrace an anxious autumn, requires a September.” ~Butch Richardson

Autumn is my favorite season and my favorite time to set tables in my garden! I am sharing two tablescapes using the same @aprilcornell ‘Meridian’ tablecloth (one of my favorites) and faux leather chargers, but changing the other elements on the table! It is so easy to change a few things and have a different look!

Table 1 photos 1-5 Meridian tablecloth, Spode ‘woodland’ dishware, quilted floral placemats, MacKenzie-Childs Flower Market vase with dahlias, chaste tree blooms, plus autumn fire sedum, and acrylic tortoise flatware.

Happy Tuesday! I am a day late sharing Monday Morn Happy Tuesday! I am a day late sharing Monday Morning Blooms. The theme for the July edition is Summer Living! Living in the country, our summer days are filled with outdoor chores, one of which is gardening! My ‘Little Lamb’ panicled hydrangeas are in full bloom and are the star of my simple table setting! The basket holding the hydrangeas is very sentimental. It belonged to my beloved Mother who kept her journals and devotional books in the basket. I often picked up the books and journals to read while visiting my sweet Daddy. Since my Daddy passed away in March, my brother and I are cleaning out our parents home. I just knew the basket was coming home with me! My precious Mother would have loved seeing it filled with flowers! A vintage tablecloth, @april.cornell ‘Eden’ napkins, Portmeirion ‘Botanic Garden’ dinner plates and stemware from Tuesday Morning (many years ago) complete the table!

Happy July! 2025 is half over, and where did it go Happy July! 2025 is half over, and where did it go? I am celebrating the red, white, and blue with a table set in the garden with a couple of treats and sweet iced tea for this hot summer day. Precious memories are attached to the checked tablecloth. My beloved Mother prepared Sunday lunch every week until she passed away. Each Sunday was a feast comparable to Thanksgiving. During the summer months, she often used this checked cloth. More delicious meals than I could count have been served on this cloth!

Happy Wednesday! My favorite place to set a summer Happy Wednesday! My favorite place to set a summer table is in my garden. I decided the table should be simple to allow the hydrangeas to be the star! I always love sharing a ‘special something’ on a table setting that is sentimental and has wonderful memories attached like the majolica pitcher that belonged to my beloved Mother. A beautiful blue and white tablecloth by @april.cornell for @victoriamagazine was a surprise from my sweet husband and also included the ‘blue roses’ tea set which was a part of the limited edition when it was first introduced a few years ago. The Sur La Table floral-patterned earthenware was inspired by London’s Chelsea Flower Show in collaboration with artist, April Cornell. Vintage hobnail milk glass stemware was purchased at the Longest Yard Sale. Sometimes I just enjoy a simple table!

The table is enhanced by views toward the mountain, woodlands, and the large Snowball Viburnum. The verdant rye grass appears as a green carpet that has been spread for Easter! Vintage Fitz and Floyd ‘Herb Garden’ teapots, sugar and creamer, and oval tray are suited for springtime with their embossed bows, vegetables, and words. A bouquet of Kwanzan Cherry blossoms add more spring color to the setting.

I am serving a simple teatime with Earl Grey tea, savory egg salad filled phyllo cups, and sweet vanilla cupcakes with cream cheese icing, and macarons! A favorite cottage rose tablecloth and Essential napkins are by April Cornell.

We are most blessed to celebrate the resurrection of Christ, being the source of new life, yet new life that is eternal. Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our woodlands and this is the first one of the season, an Easter/Spring table! I love all the sweet bunny decorations, but Easter is so much more. We celebrate Easter because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. His bodily resurrection enables all those who choose to follow Him to have assured victory over our greatest enemy…death!

 I look forward each year when some of my favorite blooms display their amazing beauty in our garden. Snowball viburnum in its full glory with large creamy white blooms. Climbing Lady Banks Rose is covered in hundreds of miniature yellow blooms cascading to the ground. An old-fashioned Bridal Wreath Spirea with its branches arching to the ground in a fountain-like growth habit is loaded with showy double white flowers in clusters of three to six that resemble a bride’s wreath. I still claim the Kwanzan Cherry tree even though it is now on our son’s property. Its ruffled pink double pink blossoms are some of my favorite blooms. All four of these blooms make up an arrangement with a few tulips from the grocery store.

A fluffle of moss bunnies hopped up to the picnic table. A ‘Charming’ tablecloth with Mary Lake-Thompson napkins and Williams Sonoma enchanting ‘Famille Rose’ bunny plates!

I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on m I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on my blog. My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!
