…Our Daily Bread

November 26, 2015~ Faith, Holidays, Thanksgiving

Fine bread and good olive oil are so wonderful. If available, I indulge in far too much at one sitting. Then I am past full, to the point I know I will surely never be hungry again. Same is true every Thanksgiving. Then comes Black Friday. No,  I care absolutely nothing about shopping. But, I am hungry again! Turkey sandwiches, on good bread of course. Truly these are things to be thankful for daily, however nothing compares to that which is totally satisfying, eternally filling, and free to all who will partake.

Could there possibly be a menu like this?
Sure is!!

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life, whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst”
John 6:35

Sunroom Tour: “Fall”ing Into Christmas

November 19, 2015~ Christmas, Decorating, Holidays, Thanksgiving

“Give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever; to him who alone does great wonders, for his steadfast love endures forever;”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭136:3-4‬ ‭

Thanksgiving is in the air!  And so is Christmas!  It seems like every year, the lines continue to blur as to when to put away the pumpkins and drag out the trees.  But may I pose the idea that you can decorate with both in mind?

On Tuesday, Katy and I went to the Caroline House at Briarwood Presbyterian Church in Birmingham to attend a lovely Christmas tour. After a light breakfast and a program of music, ballet, and an inspirational speaker we were welcomed into this beautifully decorated house.  While most rooms were decked out for Christmas, I am showing you the sunroom today because it lent itself to both Thanksgiving and Christmas!

Stay tuned as I will show you more!
The pineapple is a symbol of hospitality…fresh fruit is perfect for Thanksgiving and Christmas!  My eye was immediately drawn to the cross on the window!  The pops of orange bring in autumn!     The tree made of fresh greenery and flowers was the piece de resistance!     Just beautiful! The antique bread bowl with pumpkins, pears, and wheat is mixed in the room with touches of Christmas…a blend of both holidays!  Apparently someone sat on the sofa and messed up the pillow.  Do you see it?!  The decorator in me has tried to reach into this photo several times to straighten it!  No luck!  8 French side chair with velvet upholstery!     The fresh floral arrangements throughout the house were gorgeous!  The house had two dining rooms.  This table was set along with two other round tables in the less formal space!  Do you mix autumn and Christmas decor?
Do you begin Christmas decorating on Friday after Thanksgiving?pam closing

Tablescape Tuesday: The Spirit of Thanksgiving

November 17, 2015~ Food & Entertaining, Holidays, Tablescape Tuesday, Thanksgiving

“And you will say in that day:
“Give thanks to the Lord, call upon his name, make known his deeds among the peoples, proclaim that his name is exalted”‭‭
Isaiah‬ ‭12:4

I love the warm and earthy colors of autumn and Thanksgiving…the pumpkin orange, fiery reds & golds, and earthy browns!  It’s almost as if they open their arms and welcome you!  But, every now and then, it’s nice to change things up a little.

A few weeks ago, in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I set a table using non-traditional colors and one of my all time favorites…leopard!  At first glance, it may not seem like Thanksgiving, but keep looking…it is there.

As we approach this Thanksgiving, I want to encourage you all to look for God’s blessings.  Look for them in what may seem like the mundane of your everyday living…the birds singing, leaves changing, and the smiles on the faces you love. God is often seen in the simplest, most unexpected places.

There is a certain elegance to a table setting without the use of a cloth or placemats!

The table runner is a sparkly gold scarf!

Would you believe I got an 8 place setting of this china for $30?

*

As you know, I love a touch of leopard…
3 pumpkins grace the center of the table!

A pair of vintage candle sticks hold striped candles!

Gold, white, and leopard, not your typical Autumn tablescape!

Mother had the gift of hospitality and shared it with everyone. Karl Rosenfield peonies from my garden fill a treasured keepsake pitcher handed down from my grandmother! A beautiful floral April Cornell ‘Lillianna’ tablecloth and Famille Rose salad plates elevate the status of the old picnic table next to our woodlands. My prayers continue for the thousands of fellow Southerners impacted by the devastation of Helene! The horrific videos across the Southeast of the destruction of entire towns and communities are heartbreaking. The loss of loved ones, homes, and businesses is unfathomable.
