Faith

We are all people of faith. Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. That sentence is found in the Bible in the book of Hebrews, chapter eleven, verse one. Maybe you don’t care about the Bible or just aren’t familiar with this verse or the concept of faith, spiritually speaking. But again, we are all people of faith. Probably all of us have driven or ridden across a bridge in our lifetime. We don’t stop to inspect each one before crossing. We don’t know the engineer, the contractor or the workers who built the structure. We, by faith, cross over, trusting it will hold us up–never giving it a second thought. We drive 70 on the interstate without any concern, because we have brakes. We believe they will work anytime we need to stop. We may not even understand how they work and likely have never met the one who designed or installed them. But we have faith in the fact that they will stop us when we need them to– and that keeps us on the road.

The truth is, we all have faith in a lot of different things in our everyday living. I trusted bridges to get me across and brakes to bring me to a halt, but I discovered at age 19 that I had no idea of what I could trust when life one day demanded I stop, and then left me facing a crossing with no idea of where the bridge even was. I did not have that “faith in the assurance of things hoped for”, or the “conviction (or belief) of things not seen” when it came to this eternal matter.  I did, however, in the summer of that year, make a discovery that then led to a choice that was based on that very word, “faith”. Faith in a man-made bridge was, no doubt, totally incapable of helping me when I arrive at this crossing. Only faith in the finished work of Jesus, God’s only Son, on a cross, followed by an empty tomb will work here.  This discovery and that faith has been with me, Butch, since June of 1970 as part of my everyday living.

I, Pam, grew up in a loving, Christ-centered home and was always at church, literally, every time the doors were opened.  At the age of nine, a teacher coerced me into “praying the prayer”.  Thinking I was a Christian, for the next twenty-one years, I tried to do all the right things.  But at the age of 30, I realized that I had only gone through the motions and nothing had really changed.  That early spring night, for the first time, I trusted in the finished work of Christ.  It was not by any good works on my part, but His great love and forgiveness, as I repented of my sin and surrendered my life to Him.  The Christian life is an everyday dying to self, in order to experience Christ’s everyday living in us.

I found your blog today and such a blessing…I know at the Holidays we tend to get nostalgic and missing loved ones a little more…but so happy to see your message about faith…I was only 7 when I recieved Christ as my Saviour…Had grown up in a Baptist church going family…I remember at age 8…my Sunday School Teacher telling us what Faith meant…To believe in something we can not see…but act upon it as though we can. I have recited that so many times over the years…My Dad ( who I lost a year ago) and miss so much and my brother (at age 54) from a long battle with cancer…passed away a year before my Dad…and he was my older brother who was my protector…if I was to describe him in a word…it would be “Smiles”…always smiling and putting smiles on faces of others and laughter into lives that so desperately needed it…But through my Faith…I know will see them again…As I have told so many people…The Greatest Gift you can give your child…is the Knowledge of Jesus Christ and his amazing sacrifice…On a quick note…I was with my Dad when he passed and it was very unexpected…my Mother was also in Hospital on same floor…right across the hall…and I was truly thankful I am an RN…but just hours before Dad passed…I told him even if we had been poor (financially)…He saw to it that we were also the most wealthy…He gave us the gift…The Knowledge of Jesus Christ…Have A Merry Christmas, Kendra…

Happy December…it truly is the happiest time of th Happy December…it truly is the happiest time of the year! I am sharing this merry table that was inspired by @april.cornell Victorian Christmas tablecloth! As an April Cornell brand ambassador I received the beautiful tablecloth and lovely Essential blue napkins. The red and white checkered top lends itself to classic casual elegance. The lovely snowy village on the border of the cloth came to life with a couple of snowy wood slice chargers that are topped with tiny little village shops that my beloved Mother gave me many years ago. They hold a special place in my heart. The salad plates depict Christmas Village scenes and complement the cloth. An easy centerpiece of fresh fruit is nestled atop fresh greens and placed in a Natale bowl by @arteitalicacrownlinen I have joined 17 table stylists for a Christmas Tablescape Blog Hop. Happy Tuesday! I am a day late sharing Monday Morn Happy Tuesday! I am a day late sharing Monday Morning Blooms. The theme for the July edition is Summer Living! Living in the country, our summer days are filled with outdoor chores, one of which is gardening! My ‘Little Lamb’ panicled hydrangeas are in full bloom and are the star of my simple table setting! The basket holding the hydrangeas is very sentimental. It belonged to my beloved Mother who kept her journals and devotional books in the basket. I often picked up the books and journals to read while visiting my sweet Daddy. Since my Daddy passed away in March, my brother and I are cleaning out our parents home. I just knew the basket was coming home with me! My precious Mother would have loved seeing it filled with flowers! A vintage tablecloth, @april.cornell ‘Eden’ napkins, Portmeirion ‘Botanic Garden’ dinner plates and stemware from Tuesday Morning (many years ago) complete the table!

I am celebrating the red, white, and blue with a table set in the garden with a couple of treats and sweet iced tea for this hot summer day. Precious memories are attached to the checked tablecloth. I decided the table should be simple to allow the hydrangeas to be the star! I always love sharing a ‘special something’ on a table setting that is sentimental and has wonderful memories attached like the majolica pitcher that belonged to my beloved Mother. A beautiful blue and white tablecloth by @april.cornell for @victoriamagazine was a surprise from my sweet husband and also included the ‘blue roses’ tea set which was a part of the limited edition when it was first introduced a few years ago. Vintage Fitz and Floyd ‘Herb Garden’ teapots, sugar and creamer, and oval tray are suited for springtime with their embossed bows, vegetables, and words. A bouquet of Kwanzan Cherry blossoms add more spring color to the setting.

Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our Happy Thursday! I love setting a table next to our woodlands and this is the first one of the season, an Easter/Spring table! I love all the sweet bunny decorations, but Easter is so much more. We celebrate Easter because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. His bodily resurrection enables all those who choose to follow Him to have assured victory over our greatest enemy…death!

I look forward each year when some of my favorite blooms display their amazing beauty in our garden. Snowball viburnum in its full glory with large creamy white blooms. Climbing Lady Banks Rose is covered in hundreds of miniature yellow blooms cascading to the ground. An old-fashioned Bridal Wreath Spirea with its branches arching to the ground in a fountain-like growth habit is loaded with showy double white flowers in clusters of three to six that resemble a bride’s wreath. I still claim the Kwanzan Cherry tree even though it is now on our son’s property. Its ruffled pink double pink blossoms are some of my favorite blooms. All four of these blooms make up an arrangement with a few tulips from the grocery store.

I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on m I often shared my sweet Daddy and his stories on my blog. My precious Daddy passed away peacefully on March 26th at the age of 94, surrounded by his beloved family! He was born during the depths of the Great Depression. That may have been part of the reason he was always content and loved the simple things.

“A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, and favor is better than silver or gold.” Proverbs 22:1

After high school graduation he signed to play professional baseball with the Cleveland Indians Organization. His baseball career was cut short when he was drafted in the army. He was seriously wounded in the Korean War and was awarded a Purple Heart and two bronze stars. Upon returning home, he married my beautiful Mother and they shared 54 wonderful years together before she passed away suddenly.

My brother and I grew up in a Christian home, bathed in love, calm, security, and contentment, under the care of the two finest parents anyone could have. Daddy was known as Pawpaw to his three grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

My heart is broken, he was the best Daddy a girl could have. I know he is present with the Lord and I rejoice in that promise, knowing too, that my Mother is also in the eternal presence of our Heavenly Father.

Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition Welcome to Sunshine Cottage and the March edition of Tea on Tuesdays. My inspiration for teatime is the beautiful linens from @april.cornell With the celebration of their 50th anniversary, many Heritage Prints from the archives have returned. Eden is one of the beautiful patterns that has returned. It is a soft purple paradise where butterflies float, roses bloom, and soft sage leaves levitate. As an April Cornell Brand Ambassador, I was gifted these gorgeous linens! I have been a collector of @april.cornell linens for many years…the floral patterns resonate with my love of English Country.

I am serving my favorite, Earl Gray tea, from an Eileen’s Reserve teapot. Teacups by Grace Teaware and vintage Rose Chintz salad plates by Johnson Brothers add more floral patterns to the mix. Japanese Magnolia blooms were cut from my garden and placed in a lilypad teapot!
