The sun was below the horizon when this color showed up in a portion of the clouds. Our meteorologist has posted similar photos and called them sun dogs, but I’m not sure if this is the same thing. I was thinking the “dogs” were mainly seen in the winter as sunlight reflected on ice crystals in high cirrus clouds.
