“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Lamentations 3:22-23 (ESV)
Hello friends and happy first Monday of August! The month of August means my favorite season is following close behind!
There is no doubt that Butch and I love sunflowers. We have planted seeds for many years! They are summer’s sunniest flowers and I can’t help but smile at their big yellow faces!
I look forward to the first Monday of each month as I join Lidy and Mary for Monday Morning Blooms! Today we welcome back our special guest, Sarah from Hyacinths For the Soul!
You will find the links for Lidy, Mary, and Sarah at the end of my post.
Sunflowers are our common theme for the August edition of Monday Morning Blooms!
Sunflowers are wonderful stand alone flowers but they easily mix with other flowers. Using a watering can provided plenty of support for the twenty sunflower blooms. I then added three ‘Pink Diamond’ hydrangea blooms for interest and texture plus a few yellow Giant Marigolds that you see growing in the background by the fence. I sprayed the blooms with Crowning Glory and the arrangement lasted six days!
“Like a violin’s moving sweetness in a love song, sunflowers are nature’s strings in summer’s symphony of color.”
~Butch Richardson
‘Everlasting’ floral tablecloth by April Cornell provides a colorful background for the sunflowers! The salad plates’ bright yellow border complement the sunflowers!
This colorful table needed fun glassware!
I have six of the ‘Botanic Garden’ dinner plates by Portmeirion, with each plate having a different flower. Of course, I had to feature the sunflower, my favorite of the six!
Bordallo Pinheiro cabbage plates are often used on my tables. They work well with so many different linens and dishware.
The table offers a view into the cottage garden that is filled with annuals…zinnias, giant marigolds, and more!
“The month of August had turned into a griddle where the days just lay there and sizzled.”
~Sue Monk Kidd
If you look closely, you can see the remaining sunflowers behind the maiden grass.
We planted our sunflower seeds on April 14th which was earlier than normal. The weather forecast was perfect for planting. By mid June they were in full bloom. By the time I was preparing for my Monday Morning Blooms sunflower post, our sunflowers were spent and were providing an abundance of seeds for the birds! I had to visit my friend at Deep Roots Flower Farm for fresh sunflowers. In case you missed my post featuring our sunflowers, you can see it here.
Yes, this image is exploding in color with the beauty of our Sioux Crape Myrtles. We have two flanking the side entrance to the garden and they put on a stunning show each summer!
“Like a single sunbeam on a warm summer day, there is an exuberance and brilliance in a sunflower.”
~Unknown
Bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies are attracted to sunflowers. Birds love the seeds, especially the American Goldfinch!
“Summer’s happiest garden face is that of a sunflower.”
~Pam Richardson

Pam, your arrangement is pure sunshine! 🌻 I absolutely loved seeing how you styled the flowers in that charming watering can—it felt so fresh and full of personality. The combination of giant marigolds with those lush hydrangeas was stunning, such a beautiful contrast of bold warmth and soft cool tones. It’s amazing how something so simple can feel so joyful and welcoming, especially on these hot August days.
With the drought we’ve been having here in North Carolina this summer, I’m especially grateful for every bloom that manages to thrive and put on such a lovely display. Thank you for sharing another dose of garden beauty and sunshine this morning—it was the perfect way to start the week. 💛
Thank you, Mary! We have had cloudy skies for the past two days and a drizzle of rain, a little relief from the heat!
Pam, what a beautiful burst of color on your property. I can just imagine the daily joy your and the family feel living with such colorful blooms. Like you, I look forward to the abundance of sunflowers during the summer months, though I depend on others to do the growing. Your beautiful alfresco table is certainly inviting with the April Cornell “Everlasting” linen and the blooming plates. The darling stemware remind me of the sturdy stems of sunflowers.
Thanks for the sunny post this morning. It truly delights.
I’m thrilled to be joining you and Mary and Lidy this morning. Keep shining!
Thank you Sarah. I always look forward to you joining us for Monday Morning Blooms🌻
Gorgeous, Pam! the sunflowers make such a statement, both in the garden and in arragements. Do you think you’ll wait to plant a little later next year, or just take another gamble on Mother Nsture’s mood then? My crepe myrtle bloomed earlier this year than most in my neighborhood, and I’m noticing it’s waning now while others’ are at peak. Just another wild card for gardeners, I suppose. Happy Monday Morning Blooms day!
Thank you Rita! Butch planted a small second patch a few days ago to see if we might have some sunflowers in October. I think we will plant a little later next year. Our garden peaks by the middle of July, the heat and little rain takes a toll. There are so many wild cards with gardening!
It’s all so beautiful and bright. The tablecloth and watering can are perfect touches. Summertime is the best!
Thank you Leslie Anne! It sounds like you are enjoying a wonderful summer!
This post is color extraordinaire. Yellow is a favorite color for me but I have no yellow in my garden. Could it be because it’s so hot,102 here yesterday and expecting more of the same today. August is such a hot month that flowers have a hard time producing. Yesterday at 6 it was still too hot to water. Poor flower pots were flopping but I did go out at 7:30 and cool everything down. Hope your flowers can take August heat.
Wow, Alice 102 is extremely hot. So glad your flowers got a drink. Yesterday and today have been cloudy which helps keep the temps cooler. Take care my friend!
Pam your crepe myrtle is absolutely gorgeous. Stunning. I love the April Cornwall tablecloth. The bright colors of red and yellow really set off the sunflowers. Beautiful as always. Happy New Week ahead. Hugs. Kris
Thank you Kris. I love lots of color! Enjoy your week!
Oh Pam, I just love everything, the Scripture and quotes, the happy and beautiful table settings, the happy faced sunflowers and friendly flower friends, and most especially the photo with the color all through out…including those stunning crepe myrtles! Happy,Happy-Joy,Joy! Thanks for starting the day so happily🌻❣️🌻
Thanks so much, Sue. I have always loved the bold use of color. I am so glad you enjoyed
🌻❤️🌻
Pam I LOVE sunflowers because I’m a sunflower from the sunflower state as the song goes. 🤗 Your arrangement in the blue watering can is delightful. I love the colors on your table and the AC tablecloth is a perfect background. The water glasses are so fun. Your garden blooms in the backgrounds in your photos are garden magazine worthy & beautiful. I also have those Portmeriron plates and the sunflower one is my favorite of all the blooms featured. I also love the maiden grass background at your table. My purple crepe myrtle is still blooming and it seems here in Florida the conditions are right for an all spring, summer, and fall exhibition….so that pleases me as I call them my ‘southern lilacs’. LOL🤗 Hugs my dear friend.❤️🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
Thanks so much, Kari. I know you are a sunflower from Kansas girl 🌻 At least your ‘southern lilac’ lasts for three seasons! Hugs back to you 🌻❤️
Pam, Sunflowers are such a happy flower! Your bouquet is beautiful in the bright blue watering can with colorful linens on your table. Your plate stack is perfectly matching and your glasses too! I love your glasses! You chose the perfect flowers for a MMB August table. We’ve had a slight repreive in the humidity which has been glorious! We’re back in the heat tomorrow, but God gave us a break, for which I am very thankful! Enjoy your day. Clara❤️
Thanks so much, Clara. I am happy you and your garden had a reprieve in the garden. Yesterday was very cloudy here and was today until an hour ago and the sun came out❤️
Pam, 🌻 the sunflowers in your watering can are summer perfection! The bright colored tablecloth with your happy collection of plates and glasses are such a summer delight. Like you, I’m waiting for my favorite season to come around, but your table certainly makes summer look beautiful!
Our garden in California is suffering slightly from the heat, no matter how many times we water. So I’m thankful for every flower we still have out there. Thank you for sharing another stunning garden and flower infused beauty today, it is always a blessing to get together for our Monday Morning Blooms. xo Lidy
Thanks so much Lidy! August heat and humidity can be brutal in the South. I hope you get a reprieve. Many blessings ❤️
I’m a sucker for sunflowers. Soon enough we’ll see them here and I’ll scoop them up! Your arrangements are terrific!
Thank you Jeanie. Sunflowers make me smile🌻
Your garden is just bursting with floral beauty! Very pretty table. Love your RM’s sunflower quote.
Thanks so much for your sweet comments, Lauren!
Sunflowers are a favorite here too and I can only dream of having such a beautiful garden filled with them. It is always pure delight scrolling down your garden path Butch and Pam, you do have such heavenly blooms. I think the red floral tablecloth makes such a lovely setting background for your table and sunflowers and I love how you use the watering can for your vessel. Kudos, beautiful post.
Your comments are so sweet, Emily! I hope you are doing well and staying cool!
Who doesn’t love a sunflower? Your sunflower centerpiece is gorgeous in the blue watering can. And it shines so beautifully on your table. Your tablecloth, plates and glassware are picture perfect with your centerpiece and your gardens. I sure hope you sat and gazed at your gardens when taking your pictures.
I always enjoy your scriptures and quotes. But this week we had quotes from both you and Butch. How perfect!
🌻 Happy August! 🌻
Thank you, Nancy. I love time in the garden. By the time August rolls around, the heat and humidity gets the best of me. I hope your August is off to a great start!
Such inspiration! Balm to the soul! My month’s Birthday… I do love sunflowers. Thank you for this wonderful post. Have a lovely week ahead.
Thank you Maristella. Happy Birthday my friend 🌻🎂🥰
What a view you have of your colorful garden from your happy table, Pam! I would be so happy to be seated at your sunflower 🌻 table and looking at all your pretty things. Your marigolds are stunning and your crepe Myrtle trees are beautiful. Thank you for the happy blooming post!
A lovely display of Sunflowers Pam, they bring a smile to my face. I can’t get over how many varieties of Sunflowers there are! I think they look especially stunning with Blue & White.
Blessings my friend, Jennifer
Thank you, Jennifer. There are so many varieties of sunflowers! Wishing you a joy-filled week my friend!
Pam, sunflowers are the happy flowers of summer! (And pansies are my happy flower of winter!). Your table is beautiful, and I love those glasses. A sweet tea with lots of ice would be so refreshing in them. I don’t like wishing time away, but I am counting down the days to Fall!
Thank you Roxanne. I have been drinking sweet tea all day! Take care, my friend!
Pam, sunflowers re such a happy flower. Your bouquet is lovely with your plate stack in the blue watering can. Your gardens always make the prettiest backdrop. Love Crepe Myrtle’s. Yours are stunning. We have a few here and there. Your glasses are so unique. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Linda. We have five crepe myrtles, two in the garden and three beside our driveway! Enjoy your week!
Your flowers and dishware – just so bright and happy and pretty, Pam!!!
Thank you Michele. You are so sweet to visit and comment. Enjoy the rest of the week!
This post full of sunflowers put a big Texas size smile on my face! Beautiful tablescapes too!
Your Texas size smile makes me smile. Thank you Mary 🌻
I’m so glad I found your beautiful blog! From a quick read, it looks like you’re somewhere in Alabama. I visited the Birmingham Botanical Garden a few years ago and absolutely loved it.
I love sunflowers and have had good luck growing them in both Tennessee and Florida.
Lavender is another favorite of mine, although I haven’t had nearly as much success with it in Florida. I do have one lavender plant that I picked up at Trader Joe’s around Christmas. Before I went away for several months, I simply set it on top of a pot outside, and it grew into a huge, beautiful plant! After several days of heavy rain, though, part of it died. I trimmed away the damaged growth, and it seems to be thriving again. Time will tell, but I’m hopeful!
Pure Sunlight and Summer Fun. I always love your garden shots and the profits of the garden are so evident here. I mistakenly mixed up my saved seeds and my sunflowers are smaller and don’t hold up well once picked, but these are simply gorgeous! Happy Summer! Sandi
Thanks so much, Sandi! I am sorry you mixed up your sunflower seeds, that can happen so easily! Summer will soon turn to autumn!
The vibrant colors in your garden are the perfect backdrop to your beautifully set table. The sunflowers in the blue watering can set everything off so nicely.
Thanks so much, Karen 🌻
Oh, what a gorgeous table. Bordallo Pinheiro plates from Portugal are always so beautiful.
Elsa, thanks so much for your visit and sweet comments!
