Hello friends and happy first Monday of August! The month of August means my favorite season is following close behind!
There is no doubt that Butch and I love sunflowers. We have planted seeds for many years! They are summer’s sunniest flowers and I can’t help but smile at their big yellow faces!

Sunflowers are our common theme for the August edition of Monday Morning Blooms!
Sunflowers are wonderful stand alone flowers but they easily mix with other flowers. Using a watering can provided plenty of support for the twenty sunflower blooms. I then added three ‘Pink Diamond’ hydrangea blooms for interest and texture plus a few yellow Giant Marigolds that you see growing in the background by the fence. I sprayed the blooms with Crowning Glory and the arrangement lasted six days!

‘Everlasting’ floral tablecloth by April Cornell provides a colorful background for the sunflowers! The salad plates’ bright yellow border complement the sunflowers!
This colorful table needed fun glassware!
I have six of the ‘Botanic Garden’ dinner plates by Portmeirion, with each plate having a different flower. Of course, I had to feature the sunflower, my favorite of the six!
Bordallo Pinheiro cabbage plates are often used on my tables. They work well with so many different linens and dishware.
The table offers a view into the cottage garden that is filled with annuals…zinnias, giant marigolds, and more!

If you look closely, you can see the remaining sunflowers behind the maiden grass.
We planted our sunflower seeds on April 14th which was earlier than normal. The weather forecast was perfect for planting. By mid June they were in full bloom. By the time I was preparing for my Monday Morning Blooms sunflower post, our sunflowers were spent and were providing an abundance of seeds for the birds! I had to visit my friend at Deep Roots Flower Farm for fresh sunflowers. In case you missed my post featuring our sunflowers, you can see it here.
Yes, this image is exploding in color with the beauty of our Sioux Crape Myrtles. We have two flanking the side entrance to the garden and they put on a stunning show each summer!

Bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies are attracted to sunflowers. Birds love the seeds, especially the American Goldfinch!
